Texas sophomore point guard Myck Kabongo declined to say Thursday whether he’s decided to enter the NBA draft, but said he expects to make an announcement “sooner rather than later.” A UT source said Kabongo could publicly reveal his intentions as early as Friday. Speaking to reporters before the Longhorns’ season-ending basketball banquet, Kabongo said he’s been attending classes, but that he’d also requested a draft evaluation from the NBA, which underclassmen are allowed to do. The deadline to enter the draft is April 28. San Antonio Express-News

Diego (Montreal) What about Myck Kabongo as a sleeper? Would be a potential lottery pick if he had played the whole season? Chad Ford (1:43 PM) Some scouts still believe Kabongo may sneak into the lottery. He's going to need great workouts, but they loved him in high school and think the Texas system was a poor one for his skills. ESPN.com

Arthur (Arizona) Would the Jazz draft Trey Burke is he was available? Would they draft Cauley-Stein as a 3rd big? Chad Ford (1:23 PM) I have the Jazz taking Burke at No. 14 in our Lottery Mock Draft Machine. Not totally sure he'll be there, but if he is, seems like a good fit. PG is a priority for them. Michael Carter-Williams is a possibility for them if he slides. I hear they also like Myck Kabongo and Lorenzo Brown a bit. Ditto for Nate Wolters. But 14 might be a little high for all of those guys. ESPN.com

Kabongo can make up ground in pre-draft workouts that can dramatically alter a draft standing, in another sign of how much scouts and executives value entire seasons of college ball, but for now there is doubt whether he can even break out from the NCAA pack, let alone the NBA. “I don’t know if he’s shown people enough,” one front-office veteran said. “I really don’t.” NBA.com

Texas sophomore Myck Kabongo has been hit with a 23-game suspension by the NCAA for accepting impermissible benefits and providing false statements during two separate internal meetings with university officials. The NCAA announced the decision Friday, two days after Yahoo! Sports reported Kabongo wasn't honest regarding how he paid for a trip to Cleveland this past summer and would be hit with a season-long suspension. The Division I Committee on Student-Athlete Reinstatement modified the decision after hearing the university's appeal Thursday. CBSSports.com

Myck Kabongo’s season-long NCAA ban is under expedited appeal. A source familiar with the University of Texas point guard told Yahoo! Sports that Texas appealed the NCAA's season-long ban on Thursday. Texas officials had a dialogue with the NCAA's eligibility committee on Thursday as part of the appeal. The school and player are now awaiting the outcome of that appeal, which could come as soon as Friday. The Longhorns have sought to have the star point guard immediately reinstated, but Texas could also achieve a reduction in Kabongo's suspension. Yahoo! Sports

Sources with ties to the Texas basketball program told Yahoo! Sports that Kabongo was suspended for the remainder of the season on Wednesday. The suspension stemmed from inaccuracies in his interviews during an NCAA probe into Kabongo’s relationship with an agent and an alleged predraft workout in Cleveland last May. Yahoo! Sports

Texas guard Myck Kabongo will be suspended by the NCAA for the rest of the season, Yahoo! Sports has learned. As the NCAA investigated Kabongo's amateur status over the past several months, Texas held Kabongo out of the lineup. The NCAA's investigation has centered around whether Kabongo, a one-time potential NBA first-round draft pick, received impermissible benefits from agent Rich Paul, who represents NBA superstar LeBron James and two former Texas Longhorns players: Cleveland Cavaliers forward Tristan Thompson and San Antonio Spurs guard Cory Joseph.
