Chris Webber, one of the Fab 5 members, is in attendance at tonight’s National Championship game between Michigan and Louisville. There were questions as to whether or not Webber would and should attend the game. Thankfully, Webber decided to show up and possibly save us from 30 shots of Kevin Ware. Juwan Howard, Jimmy King, Ray Jackson, and Jalen Rose are also in attendance. The Big Lead

Q: Any thoughts on who will win the Final Four? Tristan Thompson: I'm going to go with Wichita State. I hope Wichita State wins, because we've got two Canadians on the team. (Nick Wiggins and Chadrack Lufile.) The Shockers. If not, Louisville. Q: Did you see Louisville's Kevin Ware break his leg, and what did you think when that happened? A: We were in the locker room when the game was on, so we saw it happen. Our reaction was what everyone else thinks. Some of us turned. You don't want to look at it. You're just praying for the kid. I actually know the kid. In high school, Adidas would run these basketball clinics and he was there. He played for the Atlanta Celtics. Cleveland Plain Dealer

On Dec. 27, Barry A. Kozyra, Murdock's attorney, sent a two-page letter, obtained by ESPN, to John K. Bennett, who is representing Rutgers University, seeking $950,000. Murdock's annual salary at Rutgers was $70,000. The letter was dated two weeks after Rutgers men's basketball coach Mike Rice was suspended three games without pay and fined $50,000 for a violation of athletic department policy, which Rutgers announced on Dec. 13. Another strong candidate for the Rutgers job could be Detroit Pistons coach Lawrence Frank, sources told Yahoo! Sports. Pernetti expressed interest with Frank before the hiring of Rice four years ago, but he decided to stay on the NBA track. Frank had significant success as the coach of the New Jersey Nets for six-plus seasons, reaching the Eastern Conference semifinals three times. He also has a collegiate background as an assistant with Marquette and Tennessee. Yahoo! Sports

Former Sacramento Kings and New Mexico State coach Reggie Theus will be the next coach at Cal State Northridge, multiple sources close to the situation told ESPN.com. Theus replaces Bobby Braswell at the Big West school. Theus has been trying to get back into college coaching the past two years. He was a finalist at his alma mater a year ago but was passed over by Dave Rice for the UNLV job. ESPN.com

Ray Allen not only watched it prior to entering the Heat’s locker room Tuesday night, but he called over Heat teammates — such as Norris Cole, Udonis Haslem and Dwyane Wade — to watch. “I mean, it was just despicable,” Allen said. “Not only as a parent, but I think about where I went, the places I’ve gone in my career, my parents kind of lent me to all these other people. I’ve been raised not only by Mom and Dad, but by several coaches, AAU coaches, high school coaches and then my college coach, and all of them had a hand in getting me to who I am today. And not to mention the teachers that I grew up under, learning, so we trust in the people we lend our kids off to, to help them grow. And I only hope when I let my kids go, there’s somebody watching them and growing and making sure they do that.” Palm Beach Post

Is the the physical stuff that crossed the line? “Verbal can cross the line and physical can cross the line. Both of them can cross the line because sometime verbal is sometimes as worse as physical. So it’s just all depends on what you say verbally. If you get to saying some of the stuff he was saying, I’m kinda used to that on the streets. If your homeboy on the streets is saying that, it’s cool. But if it’s somebody that’s not your homeboy, it’s a good chance something can go down. So from a coaching standpoint, if you didn’t recruit me like that, and I go to arena and you start coaching me like that, I’m going to have to take it somewhere else. You expect to go into a good environment and learn from a guy for four years, five years, however long you’re there. And some players want to be coaches, and that’s nothing you want to learn from.” New York Daily News

The way I heard it, UCLA Athletic Director Dan Guerrero called Musburger's office, and talked to his son, Brian, about Jackson helping UCLA find a replacement for Ben Howland. Musburger put out a news release after I wrote about it and said I was wrong. I think everyone understands I am never wrong. I asked Guerrero on Tuesday if he had talked to Jackson's agent. "A third party who is close to our program heard Phil was interested in helping us out on the search and would I call," Guerrero said. "So I did. He indicated he might be willing to help as a consultant if we were willing to hire him." Los Angeles Times

Musburger failed to mention in his release his son had talked to Guerrero about Jackson. It sounds deceptive now, but then he's an agent. And an attorney as well. He's also Brent Musburger's brother — you know, the TV broadcaster who almost swooned when he spotted the girlfriend of Alabama's quarterback sitting in the stands. Maybe it's a family trait, the Musburgers sometimes going overboard. I don't know. Los Angeles Times

I just know that Guerrero said he told Jackson's agent he was busy hiring a coach. And he didn't know when he could get back to Jackson, if ever. The weekend passed without contact, and Jackson should be used to that by now after dealing with the Lakers. Very funny, but a serious Musburger said it was inaccurate to write that a financial deal had been discussed and Jackson might help with UCLA recruits. Los Angeles Times
