Noel is flourishing with Smith, who was signed Feb. 22, at the point. “I want him back (next year),” Noel said. The Intelligencer

So Smith, a journeyman on his eighth team in five years, is the “first true point guard” even though Noel spent the first four months of the season with former AAU teammate/2013-14 NBA Rookie of the Year Michael Carter-Williams? Noel repeated the line to a pair of reporters a few minutes later. Soon after, I approached Noel to see if he means he thinks his offensive development coincided with the Feb. 19 trade in which Carter-Williams was dealt to the Bucks for the Lakers’ top-5 protected pick in the 2015 NBA Draft. “I think there’s a lot more fluidity in the game,” Noel said. “I think there’s more balance. Guys are getting more shots. The ball’s not sticking and guys are having fun playing. When you’re out there having fun, you feel like you can do anything on both ends of the court.” The Intelligencer

Following the Sixers’ disappointing 113-111 overtime loss to the Los Angeles Lakers on Monday night, Noel chose some interesting words when praising his teammate Ish Smith after the game. “I love that kid,” Noel (19 points, 14 rebounds) said of Smith (17 points, 5 rebounds, 3 assists) post-game. “He just finds me whenever I’m open and honestly, he’s the first true point-guard I’ve ever really played with. And you know, he said I’m one of the alley-oop men—big men—he’s played with. So I think we compliment each other so well.” CBS Philly

Until then, expect the Brett Brown-led Sixers to play hard. It's the only way they know how. "I love the direction that we're heading in," Noel said. "I love what Sam Hinkie is doing with our team: building through the draft, getting young guys and being very particular about the pieces that he brings into this organization. "I think this is going to be a very solid team in the next few years and we're just going to continue to grow together." ESPN.com

And what if the Sixers end up with Duke center Jahlil Okafor or Kentucky big man Karl-Anthony Towns in the draft? They already have a core center in 7-footer Joel Embiid, who is sitting out his rookie season with a foot stress fracture. “I really hope nothing happens,” Noel said last week. “I like this team. I like what we're building. I hope we can stick together and continue to grow.” Noel is confident that he and Embiid — with Embiid likely playing power forward on offense and center at the defensive end — will turn out to be a terrific tandem. “Jo is going to get more and more healthy and more active,” Noel said. “I see things really taking shape (next season).” Still, Noel gets that “at the end of the day, it is a business. You always have to keep that in mind. You've just got to do what you've got to do, work on your thing.” The Intelligencer

Gobert and Noel each got slapped with a technical foul late in the fourth quarter for a brief, less-than-cordial interaction under the basket. The double techs were doled out after Noel swung on the rim a bit and Gobert swiped his arm at him after the play. Spur of the moment reaction? Or was that act of frustration building up throughout a physical game against a potential rival player? “He was talking too much, that’s why,” Gobert said when asked about the technical. “I just got mad and I shouldn’t react. I shouldn’t react.” Deseret News

Entering Saturday, Noel had played in 54 of Philadelphia’s 58 games, starting 50. He has shown no ill effects from knee surgery. “I’ve definitely made strides this season with the speed of the game and I think I’m just taking it all in,” he said. “It’s great to finally be here and not just dream about it coming off last season, not playing. I’m blessed and just making sure I’m making the best of this opportunity I have.” Boston Globe

"That's my brother," Noel said when asked whether there was any bad blood between him and Carter-Williams. "Obviously, anybody could get more touches. I thought the ball was stagnant. If the ball is moving and everybody gets touches, not even really shots, just touches [it's better]. You have to feel like you're in the game and you're able to contribute on that side of the floor, whether it's passing or just getting shots." Philadelphia Inquirer
