Ken Berger: Hornets have waived DaJuan Summers and Carldell Johnson, league sources say. As expected, Rockets waive Jeff Adrien. Twitter ![]() On Saturday, the Hornets announced that Kaman would return to the team just one week after it advised him to stay away while it tried to consummate a trade that would send Kaman and his expiring $14 million contract elsewhere. On Monday, Kaman shied away from talking specifics regarding his exile. “They put out a press release, and that pretty much explains the extent of it and where it’s at,” Kaman said of the Hornets’ Saturday missive quoting General Manager Dell Demps, who said, “For a number of reasons, including the team’s decision to give more time to younger players, we had thought it best for Chris to work out on his own at the Alario Center as we made efforts to trade him.” “The most I can say is I’m going to come out and play hard and do what I’m supposed to do and go from there,” Kaman said. New Orleans Times-Picayune Though he criticized the way in which the Clippers had managed his trade to New Orleans, Kaman said Monday he had no qualms with the way the Hornets dealt with his situation last week. “You know what, it wasn’t a big issue. I was asked to leave; I think they thought they might have had a trade or something. I’m not sure. I don’t know the situation,” Kaman said, adding that he’s never been in such a position before. “I did what I was asked. They asked me to come back, and that’s kind of the extent I know about it. They’ve been pretty straightforward with me, and I have no complaints there.” New Orleans Times-Picayune |

![]() The Hornets' unusual step of publicly acknowledging they were shopping Chris Kaman creates a buyers' market for the 29-year-old former All-Star. With Kaman's agent, Rob Pelinka, working on potential deals as well, New Orleans won't lack for potential suitors. It also helps that the Hornets have recalibrated their initial demands of an expiring contract, a young player and Draft picks for Kaman. NBA.com League sources indicated this weekend that the Hornets -- and, by extension, the NBA, which owns the team -- now realize they'll have to at least take some salary back for Kaman. But New Orleans is still looking for a first-round pick, and Lottery-bound teams that might be interested in Kaman aren't going to give up those kinds of picks. That would leave good teams at the bottom of the first round as more likely trading partners. (Also keep in mind that Kaman, having been dealt to New Orleans on Dec. 14, can't actually be traded under the CBA until Feb. 14.) NBA.com New Orleans general manager Dell Demps says the Hornets plan to sign forward Lance Thomas to a 10-day contract on Monday. The move comes as forward Carl Landry recovers from a left knee injury that occurred during the Hornets' loss at Detroit on Saturday night. ESPN.com |

New Orleans general manager Dell Demps says the Hornets plan to sign forward Lance Thomas to a 10-day contract on Monday. The move comes as forward Carl Landry recovers from a left knee injury that occurred during the Hornets' loss at Detroit on Saturday night. Landry posted on his Twitter account on Sunday that he has a sprained medial collateral ligament. The club has yet to announce how long Landry is expected to be out. The 6-foot-8 Thomas, a second-year pro out of Duke, was in training camp with New Orleans and saw brief playing time in two of the Hornets' first three regular season games before being waived on Dec. 31. ESPN.com ![]() The Hornets will be without power forward Carl Landru for the next couple weeks as the team announced Sunday that Landry will miss 3-4 weeks with an MCL sprain. The injury occured Saturday against the Pistons after a collision with Jason Maxiell in the third quarter. Obviously in response to losing Landry, the Hornets signed forward Lance Thomas for 10 days. Thomas, a 6-8 second-year pro out of Duke, was in training camp with New Orleans and saw brief playing time in two of the Hornets' first three regular season games before being waived on Dec. 31. Sam Amick: The Hornets have announced that center Chris Kaman, who was inactive while New Orleans attempted to trade him, is rejoining the team. Twitter ![]() The New Orleans Hornets have taken center Chris Kaman off the trade market for now, several media outlets reported on Friday. The Cavs had been one of several teams expressing some interest -- however slight -- when the Hornets put Kaman on the trading block last week. Kaman, who had been asked to stay away from the team while it explored trade options, likely will rejoin the Hornets before Monday night's game against the Sacramento Kings at New Orleans Arena. Cleveland Plain Dealer General Manager Dell Demps said Jan. 27 that New Orleans intended to trade Kaman, and he wouldn’t be back with the team until a deal was completed. Kaman was apparently unwilling to accept a diminished role as a backup. He said last month that it was hard for him to play 15 to 25 minutes when he’s used to playing 30 to 35 minutes. Things began to unravel when Hornets Coach Monty Williams put Kaman on the inactive list for a road game last week against the Oklahoma City Thunder. Since then, Kaman has missed five consecutive games. Williams said he wants to give his younger frontcourt players — Jason Smith, Gustavo Ayon and Carl Landry — more of an opportunity to develop. New Orleans Times-Picayune “We always try to treat anybody in any situation with respect,’’ Williams said earlier this week. “Sometimes what the team is trying to do and what a player wants can be two different things. “What has been lost in this is that I’ve talked to Chris the whole step of the way until we made a decision. I explained to him everything I was doing to make sure he never felt disrespected. I would hope he feels the same way, that we’ve always valued how he’s portrayed, because he’s a talented, skilled big.’’ New Orleans Times-Picayune |

The New Orleans Hornets are considering taking center Chris Kaman off the trade market and permit him to return to the team. Hornets officials declined to say if their decision has been finalized, but they plan to have something to announce regarding the situation later Friday afternoon. New Orleans Times-Picayune With the Hornets hoping to acquire draft picks or other young assets for Kaman, Houston showed the strongest interest in the 7-footer. ESPN.com But sources said that interested teams -- Cleveland and Indiana were also among those that inquired -- balked at the asking price established by the league officials (Stu Jackson and Joel Litvin) who, along with NBA commissioner David Stern, essentially function as New Orleans' ownership committee until the team is sold. ESPN.com ![]() The New Orleans Hornets have decided to take center Chris Kaman off the trade market and are bringing him back to the team, according to sources close to the situation. ESPN.com Marc Stein: Going up now on ESPN online w/@Chris_Broussard: Sources say Hornets ending Chris Kaman trade talks & bringing center back to team. Twitter The league-owned Hornets deactivated Kaman last week and told the former All-Star on Friday that he could wait at home while team officials tried to find a new trade home for him. But after discussions with numerous teams, sources said, New Orleans has decided to end those talks and recall Kaman, although it wasn't immediately clear what sort of role he'll have after Hornets coach Monty Williams announced last week that getting minutes for young players such as Jason Smith, Al-Farouq Aminu and Gustavo Ayon was the staff's priority.
