![]() O'Neal has a tattoo of the Superman logo, while Howard donned a Superman cape to win that 2008 dunk contest. And now, once again, Orlando is at risk of ending up with a center who resembles Clark Kent. "It makes my stomach turn," said Nick Anderson, a star on the Orlando team Shaq bolted from and now a Magic community ambassador. "Because it just seems like the same path." FOXSports Florida But there would be one major difference in this "Superman" sequel. You better believe Orlando isn't going to risk losing another franchise center for nada. "They didn't get anything in compensation for Shaq," said Anderson, who played for the Magic from 1989 to '99. "I don't think they want that to happen again if the young man decides to go somewhere else. You don't want to make that same mistake again." FOXSports Florida "I would like Dwight to speak up more," Anderson said. "Leaders should speak up and take the good along with the bad. They say, 'Be a man about it.' Speak up. If there is something that needs to change (on the Magic) or some kind of players you're interested in (having Orlando obtain), speak up. "Superstars, they're accountable for the good and the bad. Some people can handle that when everything is great but when rough times come about, they go and hide... Speak up. What are you scared of?" FOXSports Florida |

SLAM: Out of the players you see today, who’s doing it right? Nick Anderson: I use this young man as a perfect example. I think he’s one of the most humble kids in today’s game that you’ll ever meet. It’s Kevin Durant. From what I’ve seen, I don’t know him personally but Kevin Durant was raised and I praise him to the utmost. He interacts with his fans, his teammates, he lets people knows he’s a human being who’s blessed with a talent to play basketball, and he doesn’t think he’s better than you. And that’s the way I see him and he’s got a fan in Nick Anderson. SLAM |

When Shaquille O’Neal left Orlando all those years ago, he potentially took a sixpack of NBA championships with him. This is what former Magic star and current Magic executive Nick Anderson contended when we interviewed him about Shaq’s retirement on our critically acclaimed radio show Thursday. “I’m honest when I say this, I think we would have had five or six championships,” Anderson said of the mid-1990s Magic team he played on with Shaq, Penny Hardaway, Horace Grant and Co. Orlando Sentinel Anderson also told the the story of the summer day in 1996 when he found out Shaq was leaving for the L.A. Lakers. “I was sitting at my home in Chicago watching the Olympics (in 1996) when a special bulletin came on and I happened to see the Big Fella (Shaq) holding a (Lakers) jersey standing next to Jerry West,” Anderson remembers. “I fell off the couch. Two minutes later, my phone rang and it was my dad calling to say, ‘You know, your championships just went to L.A.’ And how right he was. They (those championships) left and went to L.A.” Orlando Sentinel |
