“Coach Nate was a pleasure to play for," Blazers guard Nolan Smith told CSNNW.com. "This short season is rough on all of us. I wish I had my coach the whole season, but I'll definitely keep in touch with him throughout my career. We had that type of relationship. CSNNW.com

Blazers G Nolan Smith explains Sebastian Telfair's late ejection: "Times get chippy... Attitudes are flaring, of course when I get in and Elliot and us get in we're going to play hard. Get after you, get under you, and they didn't like that... It happens. He plays hard, some words were said, it happens... He had already been kind of mad the whole game. I think he did some things to Nic earlier and was kind of pushing everybody around. When I got in, he didn't still want to be pushed around." Sulia

Iman Shumpert: Friday night, I headed out to Bridgeport, Conn., to play in another charity game for us locked-out players. The people who came out — maybe 2,000 — provided us plenty energy with cheers and competitive boos. I decided to sit out the last part of the game after going up for a dunk and feeling an awkward pain in my knee. I could have kept playing, but decided just to ice it to ensure I was OK. Nothing major. I think it was due to not warming up at half because I was hanging out with fans and doing photos and autographs, which is partly why we were there. Some of the many participants were Tyreke Evans, Sam Young, Josh Selby, Wes Mathews, Nolan Smith, Howard Thomkins and Travis Leslie. My team won, 171-169. The best part for me was getting a chance to connect with more Knicks fans praying for a season! It was a great turnout. New York Post

They can't get into Target Center these days, so NBA stars John Wall, Joakim Noah and DeMarcus Cousins are among those expected to play in Timberwolves forward Michael Beasley's "All Star Classic" at Osseo High School -- of all places -- next week. Beasley's Wolves teammates Derrick Williams, Wes Johnson, Martell Webster, Wayne Ellington and former Wolf Sebastian Telfair are scheduled to play as well in the Friday night, Oct. 21 exhibition game. So, too, are Boston's Jeff Green, Detroit's Greg Monroe, L.A. Clippers' DeAndre Jordan, Chicago's Keith Bogans and Beasley's longtime pal, former Dukie Nolan Smith. Missing from the list -- at least for now -- is childhood buddy Kevin Durant. Minneapolis Star-Tribune

Nolan Smith will join Jimmer Fredette and Kemba Walker in Utah for two exhibition games. The rookie Portland Trail Blazers guard's participation was confirmed Thursday. “Nolan is a very dynamic and accomplished player who I loved watching throughout his career at Duke,” Fredette said. “Much like Kemba, Nolan is very competitive and will want to put on a great show for the fans in Utah. He is always looking for ways to get better, so playing against other top rookies will be an opportunity that I’m sure he will enjoy.” Salt Lake Tribune

The Miami Heat adore Boston College’s Reggie Jackson with the 31st pick, but there are questions about him. Jackson has provided no medical records on his knee to teams, and has refused workouts as well as even the most rudimentary of interviews. Several teams with picks in the 20s are still considering drafting him, including the Bulls and New Jersey Nets, but without medical reports it can be hard to guarantee millions of dollars on the rookie wage scale. Riley is intrigued with Jackson’s ability to shoot the ball, and that’s why sources say he prefers Jackson over Duke’s Nolan Smith, the ACC Player of the Year, at that spot. Yahoo! Sports

A Duke player other than Kyrie Irving will likely be selected in the first round. The word is that the Nets are high on Kyle Singler at No. 27 and the Bulls are high on Nolan Smith at No. 28 or No. 30. The Nets have been targeting a small forward that can knock down outside shots. The Bulls have been targeting a backup point guard for Derrick Rose that can also play alongside him in a shooting guard role. The Hoops Report
