Johnson has definitely made the most out of every opportunity given to him this season. After being sent down for a tour of duty with the Pacers’ D-League affiliate, Fort Wayne Mad Ants, together with fellow rookie Miles Plumlee, Johnson scored a game-high 25 points Thursday in a win over the Santa Cruz Warriors, before being recalled to rejoin the team on Friday against Boston where he contributed 7 points in 12 minutes of action. “It’s helped me out a lot just getting a chance to get reps,” Johnson said regarding his stints with the Mad Ants in the D-League this season. “It was definitely good to go down there and play, and then now get a chance to play with these (Pacers) guys.” NBA.com

The Indiana Pacers announced Wednesday that rookies Miles Plumlee and Orlando Johnson will join the Fort Wayne Mad Ants for two games this weekend. This is the first time the Pacers have assigned players to their NBA D-League affiliate. Plumlee, a 6-10, 245-pound center/forward who was the Pacers' first-round pick last June (26th overall), has played in four games this season, scoring four points and pulling down five rebounds. Johnson, a 6-5 guard who was a second-round pick that the Pacers acquired from Sacramento on draft night, has played in two games, but hasn’t scored. NBA.com

Johnson, however, has not hired an agent and retains the right to return for his final collegiate season in 2011-12. “I think this is a great opportunity for me,” Johnson began. “If I were still at LMU (he transferred from Loyola Marymount after his freshman season) I would be a senior now, so the timing is good.
