HoopsHype Pape Sy rumors
The report saying Pape Sy reached a buyout agreement with Le Havre is inaccurate. It still could happen, and soon, but there are some significant financial issues to work out. Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Finally, the Atlanta Hawks have reached an agreement for the buy-out of Pape Sy with Le Havre, the current club of the 22-year-old French guard. Sy was selected with the 53rd overall pick in the last NBA draft by the Hawks, after averaging 5.2 points and 1.7 rebounds per game in the last French Pro A league for Le Havre thehoopsmarket.com
It’s still possible forward Pape Sy will join the Hawks for 2010-11. Sy is set to report to camp for French club Le Havre but the Hawks and Sy’s representative are still talking to Le Havre about a buyout of the final year of Sy’s contract. Atlanta selected Sy in the second round of the draft in June. Atlanta Journal-Constitution
There should be a resolution to the Pape Sy situation this week. He’s looking for a buyout from Le Havre of the top French league. “I like his size,” L.D. said. “He’s really strong on the drive. I don’t know if he’s been watching NBA players already but he’s already doing things that NBA players do. We will try to get him in here for camp.” Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Back when the Hawks drafted Pape Sy and brought him to Summer League, assistant GM Dave Pendergraft said there was “no chance” the team would buy out Sy’s contract with Le Havre of the top French League. Over the weekend Pendergraft upgraded that to a “slight chance” Sy will join the Hawks this fall. Pendergraft didn’t elaborate on Atlanta’s reasoning for the change of heart. But considering how the Hawks praised Sy’s competitiveness and physical tools in camp, I’m assuming they see him as a guy who could eventually help as a wing defender. Plus Sy, who has one year left on his French deal, would come cheaply as a second-round pick. Atlanta Journal-Constitution
Despite the early reports about the continuance of Pape Sy in Le Havre for at least another season, the Atlanta Hawks, the franchise that holds his NBA rights, hasn't given up on landing him this summer. According to the agent of the 22-year-old French guard, Pascal Levy, the Hawks are currently in talks with Le Havre to negotiate the buy-out of Sy. The Hoops Market
