![]() With Mike Woodson’s contract being hammered out this week, Patrick Ewing won’t be getting any head-coaching interviews with the Knicks any time soon. But yesterday, the Big Fella moved a step closer to his first head-coaching job when he interviewed for the Bobcats position in Charlotte. New York Post If Ewing is going to land a head-coaching job in the near future, this could be his best shot as the friendship and mutual respect he shares with Bobcats owner Michael Jordan can’t be overstated. The interviews are being conducted by president Rod Higgins and general manager Rich Cho, but Jordan is expected to make the final call. New York Post One person familiar with the situation said this was hardly a courtesy interview, that Ewing has a “good chance’’ of being Paul Silas’ successor. New York Post According to a source, Ewing would not be considered for the head job with Orlando and it’s believed his relationship with maligned center Dwight Howard is not as tight as it used to be. Speaking with reporters on Wednesday, Stan Van Gundy said assistant coach Patrick Ewing is ready to become an NBA head coach. The Charlotte Bobcats are expected to interview Ewing for their vacant position created by the firing of Paul Silas. "I think he would really focus on the details of execution and hold guys to a high standard of that," Van Gundy said. "Look, I think the guy will be a great head coach. I can't believe it's taken this long. I don't know what the problem is in terms of people's perception. There's so many other ex- players who can get a shot. He's ready, and I hope this offseason will be his time." Orlando Sentinel The Charlotte Bobcats are expected to ask the Magic for permission to interview assistant coach Patrick Ewing for their vacant head-coaching position, Yahoo! Sports reported. But Smith said the Bobcats had not made a formal request as of Tuesday night. Ewing would be happy to interview. "No one's called yet, but I'd definitely have some interest in any job," Ewing said about 2½ hours before tipoff Tuesday. "I've, no doubt, put in my apprenticeship working as an assistant coach for nine years now, so I'm just looking for an opportunity." Orlando Sentinel |

Chris Broussard: Bobcats will also talk with Pat Ewing, tho they haven't yet asked for permission from Orlando...they have talked briefly with Nate McMillan Twitter John Denton: #Magic Pat Ewing on opening with Bobcats:"I know Michael (Jordan) is getting a lot of grief about hiring friends but I feel like I’m ready." Twitter ![]() Orlando Magic assistant Patrick Ewing will interview for the Charlotte Bobcats head-coaching job, league sources told Yahoo! Sports. The Bobcats are working to set up a meeting with Ewing once the Magic are finished in the Eastern Conference playoffs. Yahoo! Sports Ewing is a close friend of Charlotte owner Michael Jordan, and several sources believe the Hall of Fame center will turn out to be a serious candidate for the opening. Charlotte will make pitches to Golden State Warriors assistant Mike Malone and former Portland Trail Blazers coach Nate McMillan, but will likely hire its next coach from a pool of candidates like Ewing who have been less in demand for head-coaching jobs. Ewing has worked eight seasons as an NBA assistant, including the past five on Stan Van Gundy’s staff with the Magic. Detroit Pistons general manager Joe Dumars interviewed Ewing for his franchise’s head-coaching job last spring and was impressed with him. Yahoo! Sports |

![]() As such, the phone of Magic assistant and Jordan's good friend Patrick Ewing shouldn't be ringing from the 704 area code anytime soon. But odds are that it will, especially because Jordan and Ewing talked about the job before Silas replaced Larry Brown in December 2010 and it was speculated then that Ewing would come on board as head coach eventually. A second Magic assistant, Steve Clifford, is another name to remember as someone who could receive an interview. And if Ewing did, in fact, wind up getting his first shot as a head coach, Clifford could even come with him as a package deal of sorts. SI.com |

Read a report over the weekend that asserted Howard wants to hire as well as fire. His top choices supposedly are Brian Shaw and Michael Malone, proving he’s at least up to speed on worthy candidates. This just in: Howard does not intend to grant Patrick Ewing an interview. Howard has little respect for the Magic assistant. Of course, you probably already deduced that, given he felt the need to work on his post moves last summer with Hakeem Olajuwon. New York Post |
