HoopsHype Patrick Mills rumors

July 16, 2014 Updates

One of the hardest things about reporting live is your surrounding environment. Anything can happen. Rowdy fans, background noise, planes roaring overhead - it’s all part of the business. I thought Mills and Baynes were a couple of Collingwood punters. Oops. I guess the NBA championship trophy - which has been beamed around the world countless times over the years - should’ve given it away, but my mind was fixed on reporting the latest news on Nick Maxwell, Dane Swan and the ‘Pies. I can honestly say that this is the first time I’ve been punked by a bloke with a newly-minted three-year $12 million NBA contract. And I’m pretty confident in saying that I’ve never previously been photobombed with a major US sporting trophy. Melbourne Herald-Sun

A shoulder injury has forced a devastated Patrick Mills to withdraw from Australia's world cup campaign as the NBA championship-winner faces up to seven months out of action. Fairfax Media can reveal Mills will have surgery in the coming days to repair the rotator cuff in his right shoulder. Mills played through pain during the season and scans revealed the wear and tear injury just two weeks after he helped lift the San Antonio Spurs to an NBA title and on the first day of free agency. Some experts predicted Mills' next contract would be worth up to $5 million after the best season of his five-year NBA career. But his shoulder injury will rule him out of the first three months of the 2014-15 NBA campaign. Sydney Morning Herald
