TheRookieWall.com contacted Patterson’s agent, Odell McCants, who had this to say about Patterson’s health: During warm ups prior to Saturday night’s game against the Hawks, Patrick had some flu like symptoms. Once in the game, after scoring 6 points and a rebound, he was having some congestion and tightness of chest. To be on the safe side, he was removed from the game and taken to a local hospital. All tests were negative and he was released in time to fly back to Houston with the team. It appears he has an upper respiratory infection. He will sit out today’s game against Milwaukee as a precaution only. The Hawks and Rockets medical staffs did a great job in being safe with his care. The Rookie Wall

Houston rookie Patrick Patterson was taken to Piedmont Hospital during the Rockets' game against Atlanta because of chest pain and congestion. Team spokesman Bob Schranz said Patterson left in an ambulance before the start of the third quarter. Schranz added that Patterson, the NBA's No. 14 overall draft pick, was experiencing flulike symptoms before the game. According to Schranz, the medical staff at Philips Arena sent Patterson to the hospital because it was thought he needed to undergo more tests. NBA.com

The Rockets plan to recall rookie forward Patrick Patterson from their NBA Development League affiliate on Sunday, general manager Daryl Morey confirmed Thursday. Patterson has averaged 17.3 points on 50 percent shooting and 9.3 rebounds in seven games with the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, who will have five days off after this weekend's back-to-back. He is coming off perhaps his best game of his D-League stint, scoring 24 points with 14 rebounds and four blocked shots in a win against Reno on Wednesday. He had 15 points and nine rebounds, while holding Oklahoma City first-round pick Cole Aldrich to four points and five rebounds, in the Vipers' win on Sunday. "We're excited about Pat's progression and development," Rockets vice president Gerrson Rosas, the Vipers' GM, said. "He's taking advantage of the opportunity. He's meeting the objectives and guidelines that we set for him." Houston Chronicle

The Rockets went with what they thought was the best man at the board, drafting power forward Patrick Patterson at No. 14 last June. A big man who has a midrange game and a nice jump hook, who just had to learn how to play defense a little bitter. Problem is, there was no way to get that development at the NBA level. Not with Yao Ming, Brad Miller, Luis Scola, Brad Miller, Jared Jeffries, Chuck Hayes and Jordan Hill ahead of him. There just weren’t many minutes for a rookie. So the Rockets have assigned Patterson to the Rio Grande Valley Vipers, the D-League team the Rockets own. NBCSports.com

Patterson explained about a recent trip to a Gucci store in which he had an item he just had to have. But instead of just plopping down the plastic, Patterson made a phone call — to his financial advisor. “It’s just about being smart,” said Patterson, who reached a deal with the Rockets on Tuesday that is guaranteed to pay him about $3.1 million in the first two seasons with options for the following two seasons. Of the players who figure to be available for the 13th pick, the Toronto Raptors appear to like Kentucky forward Patrick Patterson the best, league sources said. Nevada forward Luke Babbitt, Kansas guard Xavier Henry and Fresno State guard Paul George are also on the Raptors’ short list. Yahoo! Sports
