With Derrick Williams joining a Kings roster that already includes Carl Landry and Jason Thompson, two players signed through 2015-16, Patterson is expendable. For a team that needs frontcourt scoring help like a Toronto, Utah or Philadelphia, Patterson could be an attractive option. The question is what the Kings could get back. ESPN.com

The team also has to decide whether to pick up the option on Jimmer Fredette’s contract for the 2014-15 season. Vasquez and Patterson are eligible for contract extensions that would begin with the 2014-15 season and could sign for as many as five years. The Kings could opt not to sign either player and make them qualifying offers after the season and make them restricted free agents. “We’re still looking at things and evaluating before making a decision,” said general manager Pete D’Alessandro. “… I think there’s some spirited conversations going on about all the guys near the deadline.” Sacramento Bee

Wall, who recently celebrated his 23rd birthday in New York, looked like he will be ready to go full bore during training camp as he lead his Blue team to a 111-95 victory in a game that also featured NBA players Anthony Davis, Michael Kidd-Gilchrist, Brandon Knight, Patrick Patterson and Terrence Jones. DeMarcus Cousins and Eric Bledsoe, Wall’s good friends and former teammates for one year at Kentucky, were assistant coaches and helped get the most out of him — with a little reverse psychology. “E. Bled told me I wasn’t going to get 40, so I went to go get 40,” Wall proclaimed to reporters after the game. Washington Post

Smart on starting Patterson and his play: "I'm going to continue to challenge him to rebound. He knows that he needs to work on that and I shared that with him when he first arrived. I thought that starting him would give us the right spacing. With this team, Chicago, along with a lot of East coast teams, you have to have spacing on the floor at all times. Starting him would give us just what we needed and would allow Tyreke and Isaiah to get into the lane. Once they got into the lane, we had two guys who were spacing the floor and they found Patrick early in the game. That was the reason I wanted to go with him." Sacramento Bee
