Millsap became eligible for an extension July 17, which marked the third anniversary of his "toxic" 2009 deal — a four-year, $32-million frontloaded contract Portland created via a restricted free-agent offer sheet, which Utah matched. Salt Lake Tribune Millsap's future is the first issue Utah must confront. All signs point toward Utah's longest-tenured player entering free agency in less than a year. And Jefferson could join him. Salt Lake Tribune ![]() Brian T. Smith: Initial contract extension negotiations between Paul Millsap and the #UtahJazz began this week, @sltrib has learned. #NBA Twitter Brian T. Smith: Talks between Jazz and Millsap were positive and both sides would like to keep him in a Utah uniform. However, all indications are Millsap will become an unrestricted free agent July 2013 and fully explore his options. Twitter Brian T. Smith: The Jazz made an initial extension offer to Millsap for three years at about $25 million, the most possible under new CBA rules. Millsap isn't expected to accept the offer, and is prepared to enter training camp with knowledge he'll become a free agent in less than a year. Twitter Brian T. Smith: Millsap and the Jazz have options moving forward. He could remain long term with Utah, sign elsewhere or be traded: nothing's certain. Twitter |

Fear not, Jazz fans. GM Kevin O'Connor is exploring ways to move up in the draft. They have the Warriors' pick in 2013 (top-six-protected) and veterans like Paul Millsap, Al Jefferson and Devin Harris, and they might even be willing to add another young player (as long as you don't ask for Derrick Favors or Enes Kanter). The question is, how high can they go? Their presumed target is Weber State's Lillard. They need a point guard and know him better than any team in the league. But if they could get higher and get an even better prospect, they would. They like Beal and Kidd-Gilchrist a lot, too. ESPN.com |

The Blazers, Warriors, Raptors and Hornets are also looking at various options with their picks. I think the Blazers at No. 6 or No. 11 are the likeliest of that bunch to make a trade. They have interest in Jazz forward Paul Millsap and Rockets guard Kyle Lowry. ESPN.com ![]() Once free agency starts July 1, forward Paul Millsap will attempt to negotiate a multiyear contract extension with the Jazz. If a deal can't be reached, a variety of options will be explored. The only thing that'll change this scenario is if Millsap is traded before free agency begins. The six-year veteran wants to continue his career with Utah and hopes he can find middle ground with the Jazz. Salt Lake Tribune |

Millsap was flabbergasted after a complete team no-show, which included some pretty ugly stats: a 20-0 first-half run by the Spurs, 23.4 percent shooting by Utah in the first half, an 11-point second quarter, two players leading the team in scoring with just 10 points apiece. "I can't explain it. I especially can't explain it tonight. They just came out and just whooped us," Millsap said. "It could be the worst ever (playoff loss) for us. I never witnessed something like that." Deseret News |

![]() When it comes to forecasting personnel moves, one of the hottest topics fans love to discuss is the future of the Utah Jazz’s assortment of big men – Derrick Favors, Al Jefferson, Paul Millsap and Enes Kanter. The prevailing thought is the Jazz will have to eventually deal one of those guys to eliminate a logjam in the frontcourt. That time, if it ever comes, seems to be a very distant place according to Jazz officials who insist no trades are in the works for Millsap. HoopsWorld Millsap admitted that having people constantly yacking about him being traded or being undersized gives him the impetus to work that much harder. "It's motivation for me," he said. "I don't get down on myself because I'm on the trading block or get down on myself for kinda being too small, and I use that to motivate me and to help me to continue to do what I do." Deseret News |

Between their happiness over proving pessimistic pundits wrong by making the playoffs and their desensitization to being overlooked, the Jazz could care less if nobody thinks they'll advance past the Spurs — or even make a series out of it. "We wasn't even picked to get into the playoffs. I would say we are a big-time underdog," Jazz forward Paul Millsap said. "We wasn't picked to be in the playoffs, (but) we're here. Not picked to win a game, (and) we're going to see what happens." Deseret News |

Millsap said Saturday he’s open to signing a long-term extension with the Jazz this summer. His contract with Utah expires at the end of the 2012-13 season. "It’s [the] team that drafted me. I’d love to finish my career here. But if it don’t work out, so be it," said Millsap, prior to the Jazz’s 103 -98 loss to the Grizzlies. Salt Lake Tribune |

Al Jefferson sat on the side of a Houston gym before Thursday's practice and thought about somebody not in attendance. On his mind: Paul Millsap. Big Al's buddy and frontcourt partner in crime — victimizing opponents — was elsewhere getting his right wrist evaluated by a Houston doctor. "Paul is the type of guy who tolerate pain," Jefferson said. "For him to be in pain and complaining the way he was, I know it's got to be up there. I'm just praying and hoping everything will be OK." ![]() Bryant had a chance to make up for all his misses in the final seconds when he hoisted a three-point attempt that could have tied the score. Alas, the ball bounced off the rim and was grabbed by Paul Millsap with 0.5 of a second left before Millsap made one of two free throws to end the Lakers' five-game winning streak. "It just seems like it's one of those nights where we're throwing the ball all over the place, couldn't make a shot," said Bryant, who finished with 15 points and seven turnovers. "We'll have a game like this every now and then." Los Angeles Times |
