Tom Moore: #Sixers Witte on evaluating guy like Perry Jones III: "We sat down with him twice. You weigh things very heavily, but you take your time." Twitter The Sixers, who have the 15th, 45th, and 54th overall picks in next week's draft, will bring in five more players Saturday, all of them big men. The group includes: John Henson, a 6-10 forward (13.7 points, 9.9 rebounds, and 2.9 blocks per game), and Tyler Zeller, a 6-11 center (16.3 ppg, 9.6 rpg, 1.5 bpg), both from North Carolina; Baylor 6-10 forward Perry Jones (13.5 ppg, 7.6 rpg); Mississippi State 6-10 forward Arnett Moultrie (16.4 ppg, 10.5 rpg), and St. Bonaventure 6-9 forward Andrew Nicholson (18.5 ppg, 8.4 rpg, 2.0 bpg). Yes, Golden State already has a starting shooting guard in Thompson. But that doesn’t matter, according to sources. The Warriors are looking for the best available player no matter the position, especially since the early favorites (Baylor’s Perry Jones III and Kentucky’s Terrence Jones) didn’t impress. Going best available leaves the field wide open for the Warriors. Ross, if Portland snatches up Waiters, could feasibly play SF because his athleticism figures to help him guard the position. Philadelphia Inquirer Yes, Golden State already has a starting shooting guard in Thompson. But that doesn’t matter, according to sources. Contra Costa Times Terrence Jones of Kentucky, Perry Jones III of Baylor, UNC's John Henson and Ohio State big man Jared Sullinger will all be working out in front of the Raptors' brass today, and will be joined by lesser-known prospects Alex Young of IUPUI, and Tyler Murray of Wagner. Raptors HQ ![]() Sam Amico: Lakers "making real push" to get into 1st round of NBA Draft, says EC exec. Word is they like the Baylor guys: Perry Jones & Quincy Miller. Twitter But multiple sources say the Warriors' front office soured on Kentucky's Terrence Jones and Baylor's Perry Jones III after the two 'tweener forwards were unimpressive in last week's group workout. The Suns close workouts and do not announce or comment on visiting prospects, but league sources revealed that on Saturday they hosted an impressive group of big men who are all first-round candidates. The workout featured North Carolina's John Henson and Tyler Zeller, Illinois' Meyers Leonard, Baylor's Perry Jones and Mississippi State's Arnett Moultrie, as well as Vanderbilt small forward Jeffery Taylor. ![]() The Warriors on Monday watched an undistinguished workout between small forwards (Perry Jones III and Terrence Jones) they would consider drafting with the No. 7 overall pick. They'll take a head-to-head look at power forwards (Jared Sullinger and John Henson) for the same draft spot on Thursday. San Francisco Chronicle Several NBA scouts have told me Baylor’s Perry Jones reminds them of former Buck forward Tim Thomas, for good and bad. Racine Journal-Times Besides Leonard and Zeller, the Bucks have apparently zeroed in on North Carolina power forward John Henson, Baylor power forward Perry Jones and Washington shooting guard Terrence Ross for their top pick. ![]() When all was said and done Monday, neither Baylor’s Perry Jones nor Kentucky’s Terrence Jones wowed Warriors management, according to sources. They’re good players with top-level talent, sure. And both played well. But they didn’t do enough to make the Warriors fall in love, which is probably what had to happen for either of them to be the No. 7 overall pick. Contra Costa Times The Warriors are hoping to use their lottery pick to upgrade the small forward position, their biggest need in the starting lineup. (They can then use their three other picks plus the mid-level exception to address the frontcourt depth they need.) But both Joneses are missing some of the elements of their game the Warriors are looking for in a small forward. Contra Costa Times Both players, however, said they could play either position at the NBA level. While many consider their ‘tweener status a knock, they called it a bonus to their game. Multiple sources said both fit best at power forward. Their size certainly fit that mold. Contra Costa Times One team source said Perry Jones is in the race, but he’s not a front runner. Another Warriors source rated the Baylor sophomore above Terrence Jones, though the Warriors’ camp likes the Kentucky star. But both are at risk of being trumped by future prospects. Ohio State power forward Jared Sullinger is scheduled to come in. Golden State is still hoping to workout North Carolina’s Harrison Barnes, who is projected to be a better SF at the NBA level.
