Gay, Marc Gasol and Mike Conley have elevated their play throughout a three-game winning streak the Grizzlies take into their road game tonight against the Hornets. It's Pondexter, however, who is concentrating on doing the little things that don't illuminate box scores yet help winning. "One thing that I consistently want to bring is defensive energy," Pondexter said. "That's what it's going to take for this team to win. I just want to be that glue guy out there that's helping control the games. "I'm in the rotation right now and doing my part. I just have to be consistent. At times, it may be tough because you're backing up Rudy Gay and he's a great player. But when I get my opportunity, I'm going to make the best of it." Memphis Commercial Appeal

However, Pondexter is far from bitter about being traded so early in his career. Perhaps that's because he no longer will spend most of his time spotting up for jump shots. "I'm a basketball player," Pondexter said. "It's not like I'm a guy who can't shoot or dribble. I'm a basketball player who can do a lot of things on the court. At the end of the day, I'm going to do whatever it takes to help this team win. I like this situation a lot more than I was in. I can see myself blossoming here. I'm really looking forward to seeing what will happen with this situation." Memphis Commercial Appeal

Desiring a backup point guard with NBA experience, the New Orleans Hornets traded second-year small forward Quincy Pondexter to the Memphis Grizzlies on Saturday for guard Greivis Vasquez. Vasquez, 6 feet 6, 211 pounds, can play both guard positions and averaged 3.6 points and 2.2 assists last season as a rookie with the Grizzlies. Vasquez was a first-round pick by the Grizzlies in 2010, becoming the first Venezuelan-born player to be drafted and only the third Venezuelan to play in the league. New Orleans Times-Picayune

“We feel this is a trade that benefits both teams,’’ Demps said in a statement. “We will miss Quincy, and we thank him for his efforts, professionalism and work ethic. We are excited to add Greivis Vasquez to our team, organization and community. Greivis is an exciting big guard that plays with a passion that we hope will thrill our fans at the Hive.” New Orleans Times-Picayune
