Long-time NBA reporter Chris Sheridan is reporting the Wolves are expected to move guard Luke Ridnour. Utah likes Ridnour, according to a source. But a separate source said the Jazz are not willing to deal guards Alec Burks and Raja Bell for Ridnour. In fact, Burks is off-limits in the discussions involving Ridnour. The most logical scenario involves Utah sacrificing the worse of its two first-round picks in the June draft -- the Jazz also owns Golden State's selection -- and Bell for Ridnour. Bell has an expiring contract. The Wolves don't appear to be involved in any blockbuster trade talks. 1500 ESPN

Waiving Howard creates an open roster spot for a small forward who can defend. The options include signing swingman James Anderson, cut just Thursday by San Antonio, or a veteran sitting at home such as Michael Redd, who has had knee problems of his own; pulling a wing player such as Chris Douglas-Roberts or Coby Karl, who played on the Wolves' summer league team, from the Development League; or trading for a player such as Raja Bell, who is sitting home in exile from Utah. The 36-year-old guard has been at an impasse with the Jazz for months, with both sides hoping to reach a buyout agreement after Bell made comments about coach Tyrone Corbin last spring that put him at odds with the franchise. "Hopefully this is wrapping up for me," Bell said, when reached by The Salt Lake Tribune on Thursday. "I’m just trying to lie low and be as under the radar as I can for a while." Salt Lake Tribune

Without the guarantee of a new contract, though, it may not be fiscally prudent for Bell to give money back to the Jazz. Jazz general manager Dennis Lindsey declined to respond to questions Wednesday asked about the status of buyout discussions with Bell and whether Jazz representatives would meet with him in Miami while the team is in town.
