HoopsHype Randy Rigby rumors

June 10, 2014 Updates

General manager Dennis Lindsey and team president Randy Rigby will travel to Boise, Idaho, on Tuesday morning to make what a press release forwarded from the Utah Jazz described as a "major announcement" regarding the future of basketball in Treasure Valley. In other words, the Jazz and Idaho Stampede are finally going to announce what has previously been reported: They're joining together in an exclusive one-on-one affiliation. This will be the third time Utah and Idaho have been partners, although this time the Jazz will be the Stampede's only NBA affiliate. Deseret News

Don’t expect a Utah Jazz coaching decision — or even interviews — to happen anytime soon. For one thing, Jazz general manager Dennis Lindsey and assistant GM Justin Zanik are on a scouting trip in Europe through the end of next week. For another, Jazz president Randy Rigby reiterated that the organization is just beginning the process of establishing requirements for Tyrone Corbin’s replacement. “It will be an exhaustive search. We'll be expeditious, though,” Rigby said Wednesday during an interview on The Zone Sports Network. “But we'll be sensitive to taking the necessary time, so that we get it right and it will be the right selection for the Utah Jazz.” Deseret News

If Sloan does not take another coaching job, there might be another way for him to stay connected to the NBA — perhaps in an official or unofficial position with the Jazz. Sloan finally started to attend games last season and has been at the predraft camp in Chicago this week with coach Tyrone Corbin and other members of the staff. "If there’s something out there that’s right for both parties, we would welcome a relationship with Jerry," team president Randy Rigby said. "The Utah Jazz have great love and respect for him." The following is a statement from Utah Jazz President Randy Rigby: Media reports of Kevin O’Connor’s departure are inaccurate and he is not stepping down. He is fully engaged in Jazz preparations for draft season. The working relationship between Kevin and Dennis Lindsey is unchanged as both individuals provide valuable expertise, knowledge and perspective toward building a championship-caliber team. Kevin will be a member of the Jazz family for a long time. No further comment is needed. NBA.com
