The Los Angeles Clippers re-signed forward Rasual Butler. Terms of the deal were not announced, but a source close to the negotiations confirmed it was a one-year deal. Butler averaged a career-high 11.9 points with the Clippers last season, after being acquired from the New Orleans Hornets last August. "Thank you Twamily for your support always!" Although he remains a long shot, the Celtics are reportedly still in the mix for Matt Barnes after a sign-and-trade with Toronto and Orlando fell through. Boston has also expressed interest in Rasual Butler, Larry Hughes and Antoine Wright, in addition to looking into a number of potential trade options involving Rasheed Wallace who is expected to retire prior to the start of the 2010-2011 season. Matt Barnes, Larry Hughes, Antoine Wright and Rasual Butler are all players that Boston has had interest in for most of the free agency period, although Barnes is expected to sign with either Toronto or Cleveland while the others are probably in line to make more than what the C's are in position to offer. The Dallas Mavericks have had exploratory discussions with Los Angeles Clippers free-agent swingman Rasual Butler, a league source confirmed. The 6-foot-7 Butler, 31, is coming off the best scoring season of his eight-year career, having averaged 11.9 points and 2.9 rebounds in 33.0 minutes a game in his lone season with the Clippers. He averaged 11.2 points the prior season for the New Orleans Hornets. Butler made $3.9 million last season. ESPN.com

The Wizards likely won't sign anyone right away, but on the first day of the free agent negotiating period, they reached out to several free agents to express interest in their services. According to multiple league sources, they have already contacted the representatives for Mike Miller, Josh Howard, Josh Childress, Travis Outlaw, Rasual Butler and Ryan Gomes, hoping to address their need for a veteran wing player. As it stands, Al Thornton and to a lesser extent, Nick Young, are the only small forwards on the roster. Yi Jianlian could possibly play on the wing, but is probably better suited at power forward.
