The Chicago Bulls announced today the team has signed free agent guard/forward Rasual (Rah-SUE-uhl) Butler. In accordance with team policy, terms of the contract were not announced. Butler (6-7, 215) is currently in his ninth year in the NBA. Drafted by the Miami Heat with the 53rd pick in the 2002 NBA Draft, Butler has played for Heat, the New Orleans/Oklahoma City Hornets and the Los Angeles Clippers. He appeared in 41 games (two starts) this year with the Clippers, and averaged 5.0 ppg, 1.9 rpg and 0.7 apg in 18.1 mpg. NBA.com

According to his agent, swingman Rasual Butler will sign with the Bulls once he clears waivers, CSNChicago.com has learned. Andy Miller, Butler's agent, told CSNChicago.com, "We intend on signing with Chicago when he clears waivers," via text message Wednesday morning. Butler, a 6-foot-7 sharpshooter, confirmed to CSNChicago.com that he was bought out of his contract by the Los Angeles Clippers late Sunday evening. CSN Chicago

Veteran swingman Rasual Butler is expected to clear waivers Wednesday, and many around the league believe he'll join the Bulls. Reports also indicate that Butler, bought out by the Clippers, will garner interest from the Celtics, Hawks, Thunder and Knicks. His agent, Andy Miller, emailed USA Today on Monday to say: "We are in the process of evaluating our options. I fully anticipate us signing with a high profile playoff team, with championship aspirations by no later than Thursday." Chicago Tribune

Who is going to be the biggest name to be bought out and where are they heading? Chris Sheridan: Colleague Marc Stein has already reported the buyout news for the biggest name out there, Troy Murphy, and the next guy to watch for is Mike Bibby, who would move into the starting job and who can hit 3s (unlike C.Arroyo and M.Chalmers, the players Miami has used there to date). Bulls head coach Tom Thibodeau echoed those sentiments when asked about the possibility of adding Butler. "I haven't heard anything about it," he said. "That's something you'll probably have to ask Gar [Forman] and John [Paxson] about. They're in charge of that stuff, and I think if they get close on something then they'll let me know.
