Point guard Raymond Felton participated in the Mavericks' Monday morning shootaround at Time Warner Arena, but he will not be in the building for tonight's Mavericks-Hornets game. He's not allowed to be in the arena during the game because tonight's the night that Felton finally will begin his four-game suspension. Dallas Morning News

“It’s just a little bit slow,” Carlisle said. “There has not been a setback. We’re not going to mess with it. The rules state that he’s got to be healthy to begin it. And we’re not going to mess with league rules.” Not that the Mavericks aren’t eager to get Felton back, he said. “We need him,” Carlisle said. “We need every available healthy guy on our roster that we can get. Don’t think it doesn’t cross your mind when you see Jameer Nelson go down the other night and limp off the floor. But Mother Nature is difficult sometimes. He’s working hard at it. The NBA schedule typically produces some oddities, and the 2014-15 gives us this: Raymond Felton, newly acquired by the Dallas Mavericks, will make his season debut in Portland. Felton joined Dallas as part of the trade that took center Tyson Chandler back to Dallas from New York. Last week, Felton was suspended for the first four games of the NBA season after he pleaded guilty to a firearms charge. When the 2014-15 schedule came out Wednesday, whaddaya know, the fifth game of the Mavericks' season -- the first Felton will be eligible to play as a Dallas player -- will be against the Blazers at the Moda Center on Thursday, Nov. 6. The game will be broadcast by TNT. Oregonian
