“You could easily argue that Raymond Felton is having a better year than Deron,” a former D-3 point guard named Jeff Van Gundy said before this game last night. Then the ESPN analyst said this: “I’m trying to figure out how this guy, who was among the very best point guards, is shooting the ball so poorly — and it’s not just this year. “I mean, does he work at it? For all we’ve heard lately from him by way of explanations, eventually shouldn’t you look in the mirror?” Newark Star-Ledger

Raymond Felton -- who was brought in to replace Lin and is one of the driving forces behind the Knicks' 18-5 start -- knows where he stands on the issue. He wants the Garden faithful to cheer Lin. "They should. By all means, I hope they do," Felton said. "They should give him a standing ovation when he comes back here, without a doubt." "I think they're going to give him a heck of an ovation. I'd be shocked if it was anything else," added Steve Novak, one of Lin's closest friends on the Knicks. "Unless everybody changed their mind and hates him, he's one of those guys that people are going to remember for his time here. It wasn't a very long time, but it was special. He played unbelievably well. I think there will be a movie about it one day." ESPN.com

And so it ultimately didn’t work for the Nuggets, who shipped Felton to Portland, where the current Knicks point guard suffered through a season you would not wish upon your in-laws. Karl has a huge amount of respect for Felton. Respect and a little regret. “He’s a winner,” Karl gushed about Felton who is back in his second tour with the Knicks who thumped the Nuggets, 112-106, last night at the Garden. “I wish I had known how to handle the Ty-Raymond [situation] because there’s a part of me that thought that was a great way to go. “But Raymond, when we gave Ty the starting job, it was pretty clear Raymond wanted to be a starter somewhere in the league and he’s good enough to be,” Karl said. New York Post

“Still being a young guy I couldn’t accept that role at the time, I felt like I was still a starter,” Felton said. “I can’t fight that,” Karl admitted. “We tried to fight it for a couple months in the summer time. He was pretty insistent. He loved our system — I think he would have liked to be in Denver — but he wanted to be the guy. “In Portland, it was obvious that it was not a good year for him. I think he’s come back with an anger, with a fire, with a passion. He’s a winner. The kid knows how to win basketball games,” Karl said. New York Post

Raymond Felton made it clear he wants to play through the pain in his injured left hand. The fact that the next two games are at Charlotte and Miami probably will make Felton push the Knicks' medical staff even harder to let him. Starting Wednesday, the Knicks play four games in five nights, so their doctors and trainers might be cautious. But the Knicks and Felton hope he won't have to sit after an MRI revealed a contusion and bone bruise and not a break from jamming his hand in Sunday's 106-99 win over the Suns. "Thanks to everyone for checking on me and yes I will be OK," Felton said on Twitter. "Just a bone bruise and I'm going to take it one day at a time." Newsday

Steve Novak did his hands-to-the-waist sign, mimicking putting on a championship boxing belt. Raymond Felton and Ronnie Brewer, the only other Knicks who made threes in a game when they shot too many, allowing Phoenix to pull within six points late, didn’t even bother doing anything. “It just means three," Novak said of Wallace’s sign. “ We just sit around and come up with these kinds of silly things." New York Knicks point guard Raymond Felton underwent an MRI to determine the extent of a left hand injury he suffered late in the Knicks' 106-99 win over the Phoenix Suns on Sunday. "It's swollen right now," Felton said. "It's a lot of pain, but we'll see what happens." Felton said, if it were up to him, he'd play in the Knicks' next game on Wednesday against the Charlotte Bobcats. ESPN.com

Felton is 28, four years older than Lin, but more significantly has a greater body of work in the N.B.A. In his eighth season, he has played in 544 regular-season games to Lin’s 76, and he took note of that disparity when he was asked about Lin on Wednesday night. “I don’t see how anybody can compare us,” he said. “I’ve been in this league much longer. He had a great run last year, one of the best I’ve ever seen. I’m glad he got his money. But to compare me and him is wrong.” New York Times

Q: What is a realistic goal for this Knicks team? Raymond Felton: We have a good enough team, we think, to go all the way. Q: You think this can be a championship contender? A: Yeah, I do. We have everything. We have depth. we have experience. We got knowledge of the game. We got a great coach and a great coaching staff. We got everything in place. It’s all about us sticking together, staying healthy and continue to get better. New York Post

“No. Now that part was definitely not true,” Felton said of the rumor that he forced his way out of Portland. “I think anybody, any coach, any player other than … I ain’t going to put that out there. I don’t think no coach would say that. No player would say that. It was just the media writing some stuff they didn’t know anything about. Only thing was that I came in out of shape. I said that from day one. I admitted to it, but I worked my behind off to get my weight off towards the end of the year and second half of the season to have better numbers. I made sure that didn’t happen again this year. I came in in great shape and still am.” HoopsWorld
