Taylor speaks regularly with former Wolves coach Flip Saunders, partly because Saunders has been involved with a group (or groups) trying to buy the team. Their relationship has led to media and Internet speculation that Saunders will be the team’s next general manager — particularly after Saunders didn’t reach a deal to coach the Gophers recently — if Taylor doesn’t retain David Kahn. “I don’t want to tell you I don’t talk to Flip because I do talk to Flip,” Taylor said. “We just talk, on his thoughts on different players and stuff like that. But I haven’t talked to him about us.” Minneapolis Star-Tribune

PP: How will you handle Adelman's situation? He has indicated he might retire if his wife continues to be affected by seizures. Glen Taylor: When the season is over, Rick will have more time to think about Mary Kay's health. He hasn't said anything to me about his future and I haven't asked him or pushed him on that. Mary Kay will be his priority, and I understand that. We'll talk about it at the appropriate time. It's on him rather than me, but I told him I will give him all the support he needs. We're hopeful that Mary Kay continues to make progress. We're planning as if he will be back next year. St. Paul Pioneer Press

The strong sense from some people around the league who know Rick Adelman is that he will retire this summer... with two years left on his contract as Timberwolves coach. Adelman told me March 21 that he will think about walking away unless doctors can diagnose and successfully treat a health issue with his wife. He does not want to start 2013-14 with that unresolved and face the possibility of another leave of absence. Sulia

But at least some who know him take it a step further and say retirement is not only a real option, it is likely. One person who has talked with Adelman said that unless the family gets some very good news about Mary Kay, it would be a big surprise if Rick returned. When we talked a few weeks ago, Adelman would not estimate the chances of his return or retirement. He said that would not be fair while asking players to block out surrounding issues and fully invest on a strong finish to a letdown season in Minnesota. Sulia

It has been a tough year all around. His wife Mary Kay has been suffering from a series of seizures that had baffled doctors and pulled Adelman away from the team for 11 games in Janury. Her condition stabilized enough to allow him to return to -- and concentrate on -- his job. But it remains a concern, enough that many who know him believe he will walk away this summer from the two years left on a four-year, $20 million contract. No matter how intrigued he is by the potential in Minnesota, the untapped dynamics of getting Love and Rubio and the others on the floor together for an extended stretch. No matter how badly he'd like another shot at a ring or the satisfaction of building another team in need into something special. NBA.com

"Rick is a family guy, whether it's your family or his family," Webber said. "That's his first and foremost priority. If it's ever a situation where it's a choice between family and basketball, basketball is going to lose every time." It would be, however, the NBA's and its fans' loss. Seven others have gotten to 1,000. In Webber's opinion, none earned it or was more worthy than his guy. "To me he's the perfect coach to get your team up to the championship level and he's the perfect coach to rebuild your program," Webber said. "He's one of the unique guys who can coach a team full of rookies or a team full of veterans. "He really helped me fulfill my potential and challenged me. So I don't care if he won one game, I would know he's a great coach." NBA.com

Timberwolves coach Rick Adelman, after twice contemplating quitting this season, may resign in the summer if his wife continues to have health issues, he told NBA.com on Thursday. Adelman left the team for three weeks — 11 games — January. “They’ve been terrific with everything,” he said of management, as wife Mary Kay was hospitalized and doctors tried to determine the cause of seizures. Now, clearly worn down by difficult months on the personal front and a challenging season on the court as the Timberwolves drown in a flurry of injuries, he admitted, “there’s a couple times I really struggled whether I should come back.” He later added: “I’m sure I’ll be thinking more about it as we move on here (through the season).” NBA.com

Is resigning a distant consideration? A serious option? “It’s unfair for me to talk about that when I’m asking these guys to finish the season off and compete,” Adelman, a private man, said before the Timberwolves played the Kings at Sleep Train Arena. “And that’s all I’m trying to do now. I think there will be a right time to look at everything. I don’t want to really talk about those types of things until it’s done.” NBA.com

Informed sources say that Adelman almost resigned this season when his wife became seriously ill. He missed a number of practices and games to be with his wife as she recovered and had her illness diagnosed. If Adelman's wife continues having trouble with seizures, I don't believe it is a certainty that he will continue to coach, despite the high salary. Minneapolis Star-Tribune

So I wouldn't be surprised to see a real shakeup in the Wolves organization if they don't have a very strong finish. That could include Saunders coaching as well as being general manager if Adelman leaves. Saunders would hire a top personnel executive to help him if he decided to coach. Season-ticket renewals for the 2013-14 season are going to be a tough sell if a lot of changes aren't made. Minneapolis Star-Tribune

Joan Nielsen: Terry Porter said that he expects Adelman on the trip, just uncertain whether he'd be flying with the team to OKC or going later on his own. Twitter @JoanNiesen
