Zhejiang Chouzhou, Smith’s team, was once positioned towards the top of the league, but have since slipped out of the playoff picture after losing six of their last eight. But, only one game out with a very easy remaining schedule, the Golden Bulls could very easily put themselves back in with a few wins. Smith leads the league in scoring with 34.2 points per game. Martin and Mills’ team, Xinjiang Guanghui, like Zhejiang Chouzhou, is also one game out of a post-season position. With five of their last seven games at home, a place where they’ve lost once all year, Xinjiang could also be in the playoffs as well. Two players who have not been mentioned thus far, Rodney Carney and Josh Powell, both of whom play for Liaoning Hengye, who are currently in fifth place at 14-11, would be playing playoff hoops if the season ended today. But their 2-9 road record will be under the microscope when they travel to play five of their last seven away from home, four of which are against teams with winning records. NiuBBall.com |

The point guard options the Nuggets will bring in include Matt Bouldin, Cedric Jackson, Orien Greene and Tyrese Rice with Greene being the best known prospect following a few successful seasons in the D-league that's included numerous stints on an NBA roster. The wings in attendance are pretty impressive, at least as far as free agent options go, as Rodney Carney, J.R. Giddens, DeMarre Carroll, Mickael Gelabale and Alan Anderson will work out. All five players were drafted by an NBA franchise, but Carney has probably had the most illustrious career considering he's been on an NBA roster ever since being a first round pick in the 2006 NBA Draft. ![]() The Griz bought another option at small forward by signing former University of Memphis player Rodney Carney to a 10-day contract. Carney, 6-7, doesn't have any illusions about replacing Gay, who is averaging 19.8 points and 6.2 rebounds, and posting career bests in assists (2.8), steals (1.69), blocks (1.07), field goal percentage (.471), three-point field goal percentage (.396), free throw percentage (.805) and minutes (39.9). "I know with Rudy being out, that's big shoes to fill," said Carney, who last played with Golden State until Jan.4. "He averages about 20 points a game. He's athletic at 6-9, and you can't replace that. I just want to come in and try to bring defensive intensity, try to run the floor and hit some (3-pointers). I'm going to work hard in practice and work hard in the games." Memphis Commercial Appeal |

![]() With Rudy Gay scheduled to miss at least a month due to injury, the Griz are hoping a familiar face can help ease the pain. The Griz have agreed to sign former University of Memphis star Rodney Carney to a 10-day contract. Carney, 26, will join the team Monday in Denver, where the Griz will face the Nuggets on Tuesday in their first game following the NBA's All-Star Weekend. Memphis Commercial Appeal Carney, a 6-7 small forward, last played for the Golden State Warriors. He was waived Jan. 4 and has since worked out in Indianapolis and Los Angeles. Carney will be available in five games -- Denver, Minnesota, Sacramento and San Antonio (home and away) -- before the Griz must decide whether to offer a second 10-day deal. Carney's youth, size, 3-point shooting and defense are reasons the Griz considered him the best option as a stopgap at small forward. Gay's partially dislocated left shoulder will be re-evaluated in four weeks, but there are no guarantees that the Grizzlies' second-leading scorer will return this season. Memphis Commercial Appeal Scott Schroeder: Since the Grizzlies went with Rodney Carney, this means Othyus Jeffers has been passed over for a call-up twice (Cavs went w/ Gee earlier) Twitter |

Jeremy Lin and Acie Law are going to have nice weeks. Not so sure about Rodney Carney. Warriors general manager Larry Riley confirmed on Monday that the team will guarantee the contracts of Lin and Law for the remainder of the season. But Riley said no decision has been made regarding Carney, the third player on the team who has a non-guaranteed contract. CSNBayArea.com “We haven’t made a decision on him,” Riley said from Orlando, where the Warriors are playing the Magic. “(coach) Keith (Smart) and I will talk things through. We’ll see where it goes. I would say we’ll have more clarity on Wednesday.” CSNBayArea.com |
