With Derrick Rose working hard to recover from his torn ACL, Ronnie Brewer believes the Chicago Bulls made a mistake by leaking that the 2011 NBA MVP has been medically cleared to return. “I felt it was unfortunate the [Bulls] released that Derrick was cleared to play,” Brewer told RealGM on Saturday night. “It’s a process and that’s a dramatic injury. If you’re not 110 percent mentally there and you still have thoughts and regrets about the injury, you’re not going to be playing at a high level. Until you can do that, he’s still not cleared in my opinion.” RealGM

Q: What made you go after Ronnie Brewer, and how long have you had your eye on him? A: I think the opportunity to add a player like Ronnie without dipping into our immediate player rotation was something we feel like we needed to pursue. He brings a defensive mind-set, versatility as a perimeter defender, and he comes in with over 300 games started. But more impressive to us is the fact that he’s played for some organizations that we really have a lot of respect for. In addition to that, he’s a high-character, hard-working individual that we feel like is going to fit well with our current group. Oklahoman

Al Iannazzone: Knicks are sending Brewer to OKC for a pick. It clears a roster spot in case the Knicks want to sign someone. Twitter @Al_Iannazzone

Jared Zwerling: Some notes: Shump won't be traded. Brewer most tradeable. No issues w/ Woody, but less freelancing. Some want White starting at the 3 for D. Twitter @JaredZwerling

Steve Novak did his hands-to-the-waist sign, mimicking putting on a championship boxing belt. Raymond Felton and Ronnie Brewer, the only other Knicks who made threes in a game when they shot too many, allowing Phoenix to pull within six points late, didn’t even bother doing anything. “It just means three," Novak said of Wallace’s sign. “ We just sit around and come up with these kinds of silly things." Ronnie Brewer loves N.Y. He turned down larger offers to join the Knicks and he can't wait for the season to start: After the Chicago Bulls decided not to guarantee the final year of Ronnie Brewer’s contract, the New York Knicks started their pursuit. The Knicks made their interest known very early and aggressively recruited the 27-year-old. “From day one, the Knicks were on me and my agent,” Brewer told HOOPSWORLD. “I had some relationships with people in the organization. Darrell Walker, one of the assistant coaches, and Damon Jones, who works in the front office, both went to Arkansas and they reached out to me. Mike Woodson reached out to me and the GM reached out to me as well. I felt like they really wanted me and I was an important target for their team, maybe the missing piece for them to be successful. It felt good to have the coaches and management reach out to me and recruit me.” Sulia
