On Saturday, before the Blazers would go out and beat the Phoenix Suns 96-93 for their fifth consecutive victory, Stotts sent the following: “It is the present that holds the next step to the future, and each present step is independently as important as the next. Accomplish today.’’ “It’s pretty cool, huh?’’ reserve guard Ronnie Price said, scrolling past all the messages, which go back to October. “A lot of coaches, they don’t put forth the effort to be involved in their team that way. So it’s neat.’’ Oregonian

General manager Neil Olshey added veteran point guard Ronnie Price to the Trail Blazers' roster Wednesday, providing depth and experience in the team's back court. Rookie Damian Lillard is expected to be the Blazers' starting point guard and second-year player Nolan Smith the backup, so Olshey has been searching for a mentor to help accelerate the young players' learning curves. He decided Price, a 6-foot-2, seven-season veteran, was the ideal fit. "He's a totally different look than what Damian and Nolan bring to the table," Olshey said, "and I think he'll really complement those guys." Oregonian

"Ronnie gives us a different look in the backcourt and we feel he'll be a nice complement to the players we have in place," said Olshey. "He works out with Damian Lillard in the summer and has played with Wesley Matthews in Utah, so there is some built-in chemistry there that we like." NBA.com

Blazers GM Neil Olshey on signing UFA G Ronnie Price: ""We're going to sign a point guard later today. Just a minimum player that is going to flesh out our backcourt. We think he's going to be a nice addition... Ronnie Price. Ronnie's on his way to Portland, he's doing a physical today, hopefully everything goes well there. He'll join the backcourt. He's very close to Damian [Lillard]. They work out together in the summer. He and Wes [Matthews] played together. He's a totally different look than what Damian and Nolan [Smith] bring to the table and I think he'll really complement those guys." Sulia

Price wants to be added to that roster. And with general managers talking to agents and the NBA slowly taking form as players work their way into game shape, the former Utah Valley standout would answer yes in a heartbeat if Jazz GM Kevin O’Connor used one of the team’s two open backup point guard spots on him. “This is family. … I’m a loyal guy, and I don’t have any intentions of going anywhere else,” Price said. “If the Jazz feel the same about me, then I’m here. If not — if they have other plans — then I have to put my thoughts inside and move on. But as far as I feel personally — the team that we have, the coaches that we have, just the organization all around — this is where I want to be.” Salt Lake Tribune

Utah basketball fans won't have to wait until the NBA unlocks itself to see Jazz players and Jimmer Fredette play in person again. An exhibition game featuring The Jimmer along with Jazz players Al Jefferson, Devin Harris, Paul Millsap, Derrick Favors and Ronnie Price will take place at the Salt Lake Community College's Lifetime Activities Center on Monday, Nov. 7. Tickets for the Pro Player Charity Classic go on sale at SmithTix outlets Monday at 1 p.m. The game's format will match the Jazz players — with more to be announced next week — against the NBA group. Chauncey Billups, Stephen Curry, Corey Maggette and Anthony Tolliver are the announced players who will join Fredette on the non-Jazz squad. Deseret News

Added Jefferson: "I'm just really looking forward to see how he going to do things next year as far as training from Day 1 in training camp all the way through the preseason and the season." Guard Ronnie Price said Corbin was "by far the best man to do what he had to do this half of the season." And players expect Corbin will continue to put his own stamp on the team, even if some of that isn't what Sloan did the past couple of decades. "The upside for him as a coach is beyond what anybody can imagine. It's going to be great," free-agent-to-be Price said. "He's going to do great things in this league, and I'm excited and hopefully I get a chance to play for him. ... "I think Ty's a leader by heart," Price added, "and that's what it takes to be a coach." Deseret News
