Ronny Turiaf has a unique ability to give back while looking forward. The Miami Heat recently concluded a grueling eight-game, 11-day stretch and the players finally had a day off earlier this week. Turiaf spent part of it talking about his latest project, joining teammate Dwyane Wade, NBA players Jeremy Lin and Chris Paul and others to help promote and raise funds for Prevent Child Abuse America’s 40th anniversary. “I want to be remembered for more than basketball,” said Turiaf, who started his Heart to Heart Foundation in 2009 to provide medical care and health services to children in need. “I just feel like everyone can play a role in a healthy child’s development and I’m happy to use basketball as a platform to help others.” Spokesman-Review

Chris Tomasson: There was an apparent misunderstanding regarding a Tweet I had yesterday. Ronny Turiaf says his French Olympic berth is not yet finalized. Twitter

Ronny Turiaf asked whether coach Erik Spoelstra told him why he started: “I’m not here to ask questions or anything like that. My job is to play basketball. I want to win basketball games. If coach thinks that in order to win basketball games, I should start that’s what I’m going to do. If coach thinks it’s better for me in the long run to be the third big, that’s what I’m going to be. I pride myself to always do whatever I can to help the team win. I’m a good soldier & I follow orders well.'' Sulia

According to a league source, the Heat gave Turiaf a player option for $1.2 million next season as part of the deal. The team already has nearly $80 million committed in salaries for next year. It is likely that Turiaf will opt to become a free agent but it was a way for the Heat to increase their bid. ESPN.com

Ronny Turiaf has played six-plus seasons in the NBA. His 81-year-old grandmother, Annie, has never been present to watch him perform during in any of them. That, he said, was a factor in his decision to join the Heat. “Before she leaves me, before she leaves us, she can come see me play my first basketball game,” Turiaf said Thursday, following his first Heat practice. “She’s three hours away, in the Caribbean, Martinique. I told her, I told my Dad to tell her last night, now she has no excuse not to come.” Palm Beach Post

“We are very happy to be able to add an experienced veteran center at this stage of the season,” said HEAT President Pat Riley. “Ronny’s energy will be a great addition and bolster our front line.” Turiaf, a seven-year NBA veteran, has appeared in 362 career games (90 starts) and averaged 5.2 points, 3.8 rebounds, 1.5 assists, 1.36 blocks and 17.9 minutes while shooting 52.9 percent from the field. He appeared in four games with Washington this season totaling six points, 12 rebounds, six steals, five assists and three blocks in 58 minutes of action while shooting a perfect 3-of-3 from the field. The big man dominoes are starting to fall as the Nuggets waived Ronny Turiaf after acquiring him from the Wizards in a trade deadline deal. Turiaf is a 6-foot-10, 245-pound forward/center who has posted solid seasons with the Lakers, Warriors and Knicks in his seven-year career. He’s good rebounder and defender with good touch near the basket, averaging 10.5 points and 7.6 rebounds per 36 minutes. The big question with Turiaf is his health. He played only four games for the Wizards due to a broken left hand this season. Turiaf suffered the injury against the Celtics back on Jan. 1 and it was the same hand that he injured over the summer playing for the French national team. He has not played since the injury and he told the Washington Post in early March: “If was just me, choosing to play, I would’ve been back a long time ago. They are putting the strain on myself, on me, because they know sometimes, I may not be the most rational guy when comes to help teammates and to do stuff.” WEEI.com

Bartelstein also represents forward Ronny Turiaf, who will not play in Denver. Turiaf is also expected to receive a buyout from the Nuggets and would draw interest in the free agent market. Turiaf was activated for the Wizards’ 107-98 loss in Dallas but didn’t play. Bartelstein said Turiaf is healthy and ready to go after being out since Jan. 1 because of a broken left hand.
