The Magic will receive young Hornets center Gustavo Ayon in the deal. The Hornets were in talks to sign Anderson, a restricted free agent, to an offer sheet, but sources say that trade talks with the Magic have progressed quickly once Orlando officials decided they would not want to match an offer to Anderson. NBA.com is reporting that Anderson will sign a four-year deal worth between $34-36 million. ESPN.com

Update on Orlando restricted free agent Ryan Anderson. Magic say they definitely want him back but they want to resolve what they're going to do with Dwight Howard before they turn to Anderson. There have been no talk of contract figures yet between Anderson and the Magic. A few unidentified other teams have called about Anderson to state their interest. But, as everyone knows, restricted free agency can be tricky. Sulia

The Orlando Magic have extended a qualifying offer to forward Ryan Anderson, General Manager Rob Hennigan announced today. Per team policy, terms of the deal are not disclosed. By extending a qualifying offer to Anderson prior to the June 30 deadline, Orlando owns the right to match any offer sheet he may sign with another team. Anderson will become a restricted free agent on July 1. NBA.com

The team also needs to decide whether it will amnesty the contract of Elton Brand, who is scheduled to make $18.16 million next season. The team would pay Brand that money, but it would come off their salary cap. Doing this seems to be a no-brainer, if the new ownership group is OK with writing that check. If they do amnesty Brand, and can't sign Williams and/or Hawes, that would free some money, perhaps allowing the team to go after a coveted free agent (maybe Orlando's Ryan Anderson, a restricted free agent). USA Basketball announced Wednesday that power forward Ryan Anderson has withdrawn from the American select team that will assemble in early July in Las Vegas to help Team USA prepare for the Summer Olympics. Anderson almost certainly bowed out because he and his business team didn't want him to risk injury at a time when he will be a restricted free agent. If he were to suffer a significant injury while playing for the select team, it could cost him on the free-agent market. Orlando Sentinel
