I’d be shocked if Sam Young didn’t make the roster. Coach Frank Vogel put Young with the starters when they shut Danny Granger down for the final hour or so of practice to rest his left knee. The main reason Vogel put Young with the starters is because he wants the second unit – Augustin, Green, Lance Stephenson, Tyler Hansbrough and Ian Mahinmi – to play together as much as possible. Still, the Pacers like Young’s toughness. Indianapolis Star

The Grizzlies traded swingman Sam Young to the Philadelphia 76ers this morning for the rights to 2005 second-round pick Ricky Sanchez. Young was not in the Grizzlies’ rotation and requested a trade. The move helped both parties. Memphis moved below the NBA’s luxury-tax threshold by getting rid of Young’s $948,000 salary. Sanchez, who is playing in Argentina, will never wear a Grizzlies uniform. The Griz have spoken to at least six teams in an attempt to move Young for a draft pick. The odds of Young leaving in a trade by this afternoon’s deadline are “50/50,” according to a source with knowledge of the Grizzlies’ trade discussions. Memphis Commercial Appeal

Trade discussions in the NBA are fluid, so there is no forecasting what could come Wallace's way over the next two weeks. However, the Griz aren't shopping anyone. And that includes little-used swingman Sam Young and guard O.J. Mayo, who has been the subject of several trade discussions over the past two seasons. "I'm a little reluctant to trade any of these guys because I'm not sure if we'll need them in the second half (of the season)," Wallace said. "Now if a deal comes through that helps put us in a better situation for the stretch run or the future, you have to take a look at it. But we're not going to do anything that will render us less competitive for the rest of this season or because of a situation we might have to deal with in the summer." Memphis Commercial Appeal

Young thinks his minutes are coming at the expense of coach Lionel Hollins getting a look at some other players: "I guess coach has new guys and he's trying to see what they've got," Young said, referring to Griz coach Lionel Hollins. "I'm being sacrificed for it, but it's part of the game, part of the business." Young added: "In the three years I've been here, I've been a contributor. I've been part of this team's success," Young said. "What happened? I don't understand. You just try to stay professional. Coach tells me to keep my head up and stay ready. But I felt like I was coming into this season based off what I did last season. Last year was incredible." Cardiac Hill
