ASM Sports, the basketball representation firm founded by NBA agent Andy Miller, has signed prospects for the NBA draft, including Russian guard/forward Sergey Karasev, one of the top European prospects. Karasev, who plays for Triumph Lyubertsy in the Russian Professional Basketball League, was ranked No. 25 by NBADraft.net and No. 19 by DraftExpress.com in mock drafts last week. "He's pretty good," a Western Conference GM said. "I think he'll climb in the Draft a little bit. He's got a unique skill and can shoot it." One scout said Karasev might be ahead of Caldwell-Pope and Crabbe among two guard prospects. "He kind of knows how to play," the scout said. "Good athleticism for a European. His dad is the coach so he doesn't have restrictions on his shot selection. He's an 18-year-old playing with men and he held his own. If he's set, he can really shoot it. He struggles a little on the move. But he moves well, handles the ball well. He's left-handed and he can go to the left or to the right. He's well-schooled." NBA.com |

Some NBA teams being told by people close to Sergey Karasev that the Russian SF will not be in the 2013 draft.... Not a great surprise because Karasev is only 19 and has a chance to develop into more of a prospect than being on the bubble for the first round. But if the early word holds, the draft has lost one of the better candidates from Europe. Barring a mass withdrawl, though, 2013 could be a decent bounceback for overseas impact after minimal influence last June. Rudy Gobert of France, a possibility for late-lottery, and Dario Saric of Croatia lead the way. Sulia |

And who knows, perhaps soon Shved will serve a similar role to another wide-eyed countryman that makes his way to the NBA. “Sergey Karasev might be the next [one],” Kirilenko said of the 6-foot-7, 19-year-old shooting guard who averages 18.7 points and 6.3 rebounds for Triumph Lyubertsy in the Russian Professional Basketball League. “He might be joining us soon.” NBA.com |
