Like Bogdanovic, Karasev admitted to a somewhat uneasy relationship with Lionel Hollins, but one that he saw, in the end, as mutually respectful. "Actually I wouldn't call his relationship with any player straight-forward, because he tailors his coaching approach to each individual. He plays his cards close to his chest but he's a top class professional. He has a great feel for the game, and if you give him your all during each practice and every time you play, it does not go unnoticed - He will always tell you that you're doing a good job and to keep up he good work. I think I have a pretty good relationship with him. He has come up to me, given some tips and advice and told me what I need to work on. I hope next year I can prove that I can play under his leadership." NetsDaily

Well, Nets insiders say that Dirk Nowitzki intentionally grabbed at his, um, groin, and it bent the Russian over and kept him out. Karasev said after the game that he was hit around the hip, but that may have just been diplomatic. Germany and Russia have had tense relations after all. NetsDaily

But after Bogdanovic started the first 19 games, his playing time has gradually been reduced over the last few weeks, with coach Lionel Hollins demoting him from the starting five in favor of Sergey Karasev. It got to the point Bogdanovic received the first DNP-coach’s decision of his career in Friday’s 100-98 win over the Magic. “It’s not about what [Bogdanovic has] done, it’s about what he’s not done,” Hollins said before the game. “You’ve got to play and compete and go out and play well. Karasev has shown me a lot in practice. We were struggling, I gave him a shot and he played well. … I put him in the starting lineup and he’s played well. “It’s also a product of [Bogdanovic] just hitting the wall and not being aggressive.” New York Post

All that is what Karasev hopes to provide. He wants only to be a part of winning, to continually grow. He got his chance. Now he wants to keep contributing in any way, much like his idol, another lefty: San Antonio’s Manu Ginobili. “He’s my favorite player. When he came here, I can’t say he was a big star. But because of his work he became one of the main guys in San Antonio, one of the three who win a lot of championships. He’s just a high IQ basketball player who every time plays hard,” Karasev said. “That is the way. Every day you should improve everything.” New York Post

According to a tweet from Ohm Youngmisuk of ESPN New York, the Brooklyn Nets have had preliminary talks with the Sixers about a trade involving Andrei Kirilenko and Sergey Karasev. The tweet also states that the Sixers would likely waive Kirilenko if such a deal were completed. The Sixers would likely require a future draft pick in addition to acquiring the Nets' pair of Russian-born players. It's unclear what the Sixers would send the Nets in return. CSNPhilly.com

Andrei Kirilenko will be without the Nets for the team’s two-game road trip, and most likely forever. Though the team cited “personal reasons” for Kirilenko’s absence, a team source confirmed to The Brooklyn Game that Kirilenko’s lack of minutes and boot from the rotation played a factor in him leaving the team indefinitely. When asked if Kirilenko had played his last game for the Nets, one high-ranking Nets source said, “If I were a betting man, I’d say probably.” The Brooklyn Game
