After that, O’Neal thinks he knows what’s needed. “For the triangle to work, you need to have two superstars,’’ he said. “It’s been proven over time. Look at what Phil needed to win his championships in Chicago. Then look what he had in L.A., with me and Kobe. You have to have two superstars playing in the triangle to win championships.’’ NBC New York

Consider that O’Neal, 42, earned more than $21 million last year through his many business partnerships and his TV work, his management team said. And while several retired athletes make more — Michael Jordan collected $90 million last year, according to a recent survey by Forbes — few can seemingly compete with the volume and variety of O’Neal products. Representatives from 19 companies showed up for the Shaq Summit. Shaq knows that it might seem like a lot of Shaq, except that he says he turns companies down. His name goes only on things that he likes, he said. Such as his Dunkman backpacks. And his soon-to-be-released line of Capelli slippers. And all four flavors of Soda Shaq. New York Times

Can share your thoughts about the domestic abuse problems that continues to be a problem in the NFL? Shaquille O'Neal: I don’t have an opinion about it. However, it is a slippery slope to tell someone how to discipline their kids. Similar to what he (Minnesota Vikings running back Adrian Peterson, who faces child abuse charges) did, that’s how I got disciplined and it worked for me. My grandmother, who was 4 feet 9, told me to go outside and get one (a switch). She wasn’t playing. That’s the only issue I have a problem with. But then on the other side to go back – the kid was only four. So you have to look at both sides. New Orleans Times-Picayune

What do you regret the most in your career? Shaquille O'Neal: The thing that haunts me the most is that I missed 250 games, especially when I was averaging high numbers. Right now, I'm sixth (on the NBA All-time scoring list with 28,596 total points). Lets just knock that in half (missed games), that’s another 3,000 points right there. That would put me at No. 3 or No. 2. I missed 10,000 free throws. Lets just say I only missed 7,000, that’s another 3,000 points. I might be No. 2 right now. That’s the only thing that haunts me. Did you think LeBron James made the right decision to return home to play for the Cleveland Cavaliers after playing the last four seasons with the Miami Heat and winning two NBA championships? Shaquille O'Neal: The one thing they cannot say is that he hasn’t won. He has a little pressure to win in Cleveland, but not as much. If his career ended today, what he’s got – two titles. I thought it was a good thing. They are the team to beat now. But I’m concerned about their coach and their bench, but we’ll just have to see. The good thing for them is that the East isn’t really that tough. They’ll probably have to worry about Washington and maybe Chicago. I don’t even know about Miami. They’ll win some games, but they are not one of the contenders anymore. New Orleans Times-Picayune

According to former coach Alvin Gentry, Shaq would set up ambushes of teammates on the regular, where he would run after and tackle one, wearing nothing but a menacing smile (and perhaps his Jiu-Jitsu rank belt?). Gentry revealed the disturbing "prank" details in a recent interview. "The thing that he did that he got to be notorious for is that, every few days or every week or so, he would decide that it was time for this Brazilian naked wrestling contest," Gentry said. "You would never know who the chosen one was, but what would happen when you least expect it, this 7-foot, 310-pound guy would turn the corner, and he would be stark naked and he would run right at you full speed, grab you, he would take you to the floor and then he would do about five rollovers with you. And he would always tell our trainers who it was going to be, so they were always prepared for it, but you never knew who it was going to be." Yahoo! Sports Philippines

In an interview with TrueHoop's Henry Abbott, former Phoenix Suns coach Alvin Gentry shared a tale of Shaq's passion for pranks, providing a mental image you'll wish you could scrub clean with a wire brush. "The thing that he did that he got to be notorious for is that, every few days or every week or so, he would decided that it was time for this Brazilian naked wrestling contest. He said some teams are only a few pieces away sometimes. "They're on the right track, but they are two big pieces away or three to four nice pieces away," O'Neal said. "For us in Orlando, we had three big pieces in 3 years: me first, Penny [Hardaway] the second year and then Horace Grant the third. That would be similar to what Miami did when they had Dwyane Wade, having a big three. In Philly, you have [Nerlens Noel], who's going to do great on defense; the young guard Michael Carter-Williams, he's playing well. Now you need one or two more role-playing pieces, so you can start to build like [the Oklahoma City Thunder] did." Philadelphia Inquirer
