I saw you said they gave Michael Beasley's No. 8 to Shawne Williams. So I guess they're not going to retire Bease's number? (OK, so it means he's not coming back?) -- Henrique. A: An adjustment still could be made if Beasley is brought back, but that is an increasing longshot. But it's also not as if the Heat are mass producing Shawne Williams jerseys at this stage, either. While Beasley appears to be in the rearview mirror, the Heat still seems to be lacking on the wing, where the current options are Dwyane Wade, Luol Deng, Danny Granger, Reggie Williams, James Ennis and Tyler Johnson. There simply is not a lot of one-on-one creativity there, no one, really, other that Wade who can score off the dribble. South Florida Sun-Sentinel

On Tuesday, the Lakers waived forward Shawne Williams, but not before he earned $475,334. The Lakers now have 14 players on the roster, one below the league maximum. Including three waived players (Chris Duhon, Elias Harris and Williams), the team's total salary this season is $78,934,933. The Lakers will also pay a luxury tax penalty to the league, in the neighborhood of $11.3 million. Los Angeles Times

Williams was cut because he was brought on to stretch the floor at the forward spot but shot only 37.7%. The Lakers also like the potential of rookie forward Ryan Kelly. "[Williams] did everything we asked of him and he did well," Lakers Coach Mike D'Antoni said. "It's just with the injuries and to be able to keep flexibility and be able to look at different areas we may have to shore up, it's something we felt like we had to do." Williams, 27, averaged 5.2 points and 4.5 rebounds and started 11 games. He would have made about $1 million this season. Los Angeles Times
