One source insists they’ll stand pat during the draft, dump some salary later, and land a free agent next month. The source mentioned center Spencer Hawes (76ers), shooting guard Nick Young (Clippers), point guard Kirk Hinrich (Hawks) and power forward Kris Humphries (Nets), as possible targets. “They seem to be figuring out what to with Gasol first,” said a source. If not, a deal between the Warriors and Cavs could happen, he added. FOXSportsOhio

The Williams situation is just one of many that are facing the team. Starting center Spencer Hawes is an unrestricted free agent and, as the league source said, “There are a lot of teams interested in him. Who wouldn’t be? He’s a big man who can do a lot of things and is only 24 years-old.” Several sources have said Hawes could garner anywhere from $5 to $7 million a season. The team also needs to decide whether they will amnesty the contract of Elton Brand, who is scheduled to make $18.16 million next season. The team would pay Brand that money, but it would come off of their salary cap. Doing this seems to be a no-brainer, if the new ownership group is OK with writing that check. If they do amnesty Brand, and can’t sign Williams and/or Hawes, that would free some money, perhaps allowing the team to go after a coveted free agent (maybe Orlando’s Ryan Anderson, a restricted free agent). Surprisingly, no GM, scout or executive put North Carolina's Tyler Zeller among their top three as a potential cornerstone big man. Most believe he could very well come into the league and initially be more effective than Drummond, Leonard and Robinson, but that he is much closer to his peak ability right now than any of them. "He is what he is," said the scout. "A quicker version of Spencer Hawes." ESPN.com

The 76ers moved to within one victory of advancing to the second round of the Eastern Conference playoffs on Sunday, taking Game 4 from the Bulls at Wells Fargo Center, 89-82. Jrue Holiday scored 16 of his 20 points in the second half and Spencer Hawes had his second impressive showing in a row, finishing with 22 points and eight rebounds for the Sixers, who lead the series 3-1. The Sixers, the eighth seed, can close out the top-seeded Bulls on Tuesday in Chicago. Only eight teams in NBA history have ever recovered from a 3-1 series deficit to advance in the playoffs.
