HoopsHype Stephen Jackson rumors

Jackson shared a good Duncan yarn — as well as why he still dislikes Oklahoma City’s Serge “Ain’t About This Life” Ibaka — on a paint-ball outing that went awry in a lengthy sit-down interview with Grantland’s Bill Simmons. Enjoy the unfiltered glory that is Captain Jack. “I got a good story. We were playing paint ball. Tim likes to play paint ball. It’s hard to believe that a guy that tall is the best hider in paint ball. We were not supposed to be playing paint ball. We were in training camp and we snuck out. Pop told us not to go, and we went anyway. It was Tim’s idea to go against Pop. So we go. San Antonio Express-News

“I’m one of those guys, I’m not afraid to get shot at. I’ve been shot at many times in real life, so a paint-ball bullet didn’t bother me at all. It was a game of grab the flag, so you had to run up the (hill). I was new to the game, and I didn’t know you could have the actual mask that doesn’t fog up. I didn’t know. I’m just an action junkie, so I’m running up there to get the flag and my mask fogs up. So I’m running up the steps, I slip on the first step and hit my mouth. Blood starts shooting everywhere. I put my mask down, and I’m trying to run up the field and I’m just getting shot. And I’m yelling, ‘Stop! Stop!’ and I’m getting shot the whole way. “So as I get there…Tim’s like, ‘Oh, how am I going to tell Pop?’ My lip is just huge. I’m talking about, huge. And Tim’s like ‘How I’m going to tell Pop?’ We made up something. I was at the club or something. I took one for the team. That’s more believable, me being at the club then falling and hitting my lip playing paint ball.” San Antonio Express-News

Jackson on a possible return to NBA: If it happens, it happens. I'm not sitting around with my fingers crossed. If I get a call I will explore it, but I'm enjoying my life, man. I'm doing music now so it's all good. HoopsAddict.com

Jackson on Spurs dethroning Heat: I was happy for 'em! You know, I've got a lot of love for a lot of those guys on that team. I saw how much last year hurt those guys. So it felt good to see them win a championship and bounce back this year. And also, with everything that Tim (Duncan) did (for that franchise) it was good to see him get another championship. In the wake of the Donald Sterling debacle last week, we knew there’d be some strong responses. The NBA and Adam Silver banned him. Some sponsorships dropped him. Magic Johnson disowned him. And even his “girlfriend” scolded him. But we didn’t expect a diss track from Stephen Jackson. The former 6-8 forward–known as Stak5–actually has some serious skills on the mic if you didn’t already know, and “America Da Beautiful (Letter To Mr. Sterling)” is a headbanger. Dime

"Is this a court or is this a cotton field?" That question has, in essence, been posed by a number of NBA luminaries in the days since Donald Sterling's racially charged remarks hit the Internet and commissioner Adam Silver subsequently banned him from the league for life. Stephen Jackson, though, is the only one who's done so in lyrical form. Jackson, a 14-year league veteran who's long dabbled in the world of hip-hop, released his latest track entitled "America Da Beautiful" on Friday, following an announcement on Twitter and Instagram. From Travis Steel: What did you and Stephen Jackson listen to in the car? Bun B or the White Stripes? Matt Bonner: Sadly, we never rode together in a car. The need never arose. I always had my Pontiac Grand Prix, and he always had his Rolls Royce. All you need to know is that Stak5 is the man. He was a great teammate and a good friend and if he ever asks me to spit a guest verse on one of his tracks, I wouldn’t even hesitate. He rocked our charity SXSW showcase last year and was clutch like Bird… The fat lady sang. So all you Stak5 haters better not step or you’ll get served… Michael Chang. Hardwood Paroxysm

The Los Angeles Clippers are expected to waive small forward Stephen Jackson on Tuesday, according to a person with knowledge of the situation. The person spoke to USA TODAY Sports on the condition of anonymity because the decision had not yet been announced. The 13-year veteran was cut unexpectedly by the San Antonio Spurs in April and had an eight-month hiatus before signing with the Clippers on Dec. 10, but his contract was scheduled to become fully guaranteed as of late Tuesday and the Clippers need to clear roster spots as they continue to retool. Jackson played in nine games for the Clippers, averaging just 1.7 points (23.1% shooting) and 1.1 rebounds while playing an average of 11.9 minutes per game. USA Today Sports
