Not all the Spurs were thrilled about the experience. For Stephen Jackson, getting home at the conclusion of the weeklong Western portion of the Spurs’ rodeo road trip meant reuniting with his wife, Renata, to continue the process of recovering from the loss of the child the couple recently lost. Jackson said he and his wife are to learn results of an autopsy conducted after the baby Renata Jackson had been carrying for six and a half months died after a premature birth. “It’s going to be good to get home just to see how she is doing,” Jackson said after the Spurs closed out their nine-game rodeo trip with a victory over the Phoenix Suns on Sunday. “I hope she is fine, hope everything is fine. She’s been on my mind ever since I left. Things are getting better. I’m OK and I’ll get home. We’ll get the autopsy and we’ll go from there.” San Antonio Express-News

Returning to the game he loves and the team he considers family, Spurs swingman Stephen Jackson suited up Thursday for the first time since learning last week that his wife, Renata, had lost the child she had been carrying for 6 1/2 months. Though Jackson said nothing can salve the pain of losing a child that would have been the first for the couple, who married in 2011, he believes playing basketball and being around teammates will be therapeutic. “I’m as good as I can be,” Jackson said before Thursday’s Spurs-Clippers game at Staples Center. “I’m happy to be back with the team. I need to be back with the team, just for my own sanity. Basketball and being around these guys helps me a lot, so it’s definitely something I needed.” San Antonio Express-News

Jackson learned of the loss while the Spurs were on the first phase of the rodeo road trip. He left the team after it arrived in Chicago for a game Feb. 11, missing games in Chicago, Cleveland and Sacramento. Spurs coach Gregg Popovich told Jackson to take as much time away from the team as he needed. “It was an unfortunate situation,” Jackson said. “Very frustrating and emotional and I’m nowhere close to being over it. “My wife is not doing too well, so I’m happy I had a coach like Pop who gave me the time to be with her. In order for me to help her I also have to help myself because this was a baby we were definitely looking forward to having. Set to host his own event next month at SXSW, it only makes sense that renowned music head Matt Bonner would enlist the services of teammate/rapper Stephen “Stak 5″ Jackson to fill out the set list. Jackson will be one of six acts performing at Bonner’s Sneakers and Speakers extravaganza, to be held March 13 from noon to 6 p.m. at Club Deville. The event will serve as a fundraiser to help launch the nonprofit organization Bonner recently founded with his brother Luke, the Rock On Foundation. San Antonio Express-News

Mayor Bloomberg put a full-court press on Spurs forward Stephen Jackson before the player left a Knicks game Thursday with a sprained ankle. The Knicks ended up winning easily, 100-83. Fans reported Jackson tripped on a waitress, who was crouched on the sidelines with her back to the Madison Square Garden court while serving a drink to the mayor. “He didn’t fall on her,” Bloomberg revealed yesterday during a press conference in The Bronx dealing with schools. “He came close and I just pushed him a little bit.” New York Post
