The Clippers found themselves in need of depth in the wake of injuries to Matt Barnes, J.J. Redick, Maalik Wayns and most recently Reggie Bullock. Jackson logged 12 minutes in the Clippers' 96-88 win over Boston, going 0-for-3 in his first game since April. The San Antonio Spurs waived Jackson on April 12, just days before the postseason began. "I felt pretty good. I was winded,” Jackson said after the game. "My legs were tired as soon as I got in the game, but it felt good to get back out there. Getting a win in the first one is definitely sweet.” RealGM

After saying earlier Monday the Clippers weren't going to sign "anybody today or probably even" Tuesday, Coach Doc Rivers said later the team was "close" to a deal with free-agent swingman Stephen Jackson. Jackson is expected to join the Clippers in Boston on Tuesday to sign a contract and take a physical. "We need him in a pinch and we need him like now," Rivers said. "And that's a guy that you can bring in and hopefully he can give you something right away with Reggie [Bullock] being out for at least this trip and maybe longer." Los Angeles Times

After being charged with a felony count of criminal recklessness in October 2006 for firing shots outside of a strip club when he played in Indiana, Jackson was suspended seven games by the NBA at the start of that season. "He's had his issues. There's no doubt about it," Rivers said. "He's breathing and living and I think if that's true, you should always give a guy another chance.…The good news is contractually, if it doesn't work, we'll walk." Los Angeles Times

One of the ways the Clippers may do that is the rumored addition of veteran forward Stephen Jackson. Rivers said after the Cavaliers game that the team would exhaust all potential avenues to fill in for Barnes, Bullock and Redick. “We are close,” Rivers said of adding another player. “It’s not done yet. Nothing’s done in our league until it’s done.” NBA.com

Free agent forward Stephen Jackson has signed his contract agreement with the Los Angeles Clippers, a league source told RealGM. Jackson had been working on his deal with the Clippers, and the two sides reached completion on Monday afternoon. Jackson, 35, was waived by the San Antonio Spurs late last season – a tumultuous split that left the 16-year NBA veteran searching the market in free agency. RealGM

Jackson, meanwhile, has been working out on his own in Texas in hopes of hooking up with another contender. Spurs coach Gregg Popovich abruptly released the 35-year-old in April just six days before the end of the regular season because the Spurs felt that Jackson was unwilling to accept a lesser role in the playoffs behind fast-developing youngsters Kawhi Leonard and Danny Green. Spurs point guard Tony Parker left Saturday’s 121-96 preseason loss to Miami in the third quarter after banging a finger on the camera of a photographer seated on the baseline. Stephen Jackson sprained an ankle last season at MadisonSquareGarden tripping on a courtside waitress. In 2010, George Hill sprained an ankle after landing on a baseline photographer in Dallas. “It’s kind of like when you’re in your neighborhood. You keep telling people you need a stop sign, and they don’t change it until a kid gets killed and then they put up a stop sign,” Popovich said. “Somebody of stature is going to get seriously hurt by one of those guys, and then all hell will break loose.” San Antonio Express-News
