When Stephen Jackson and Matt Bonner were planning their joint birthday party, it can't have been easy to agree on a theme. But if there's one thing everybody can agree on, it's that Anchorman is a classic of American cinema. So the San Antonio Spurs teammates decided to have a viewing party, and act along with the film. In a great video interview with Spurs.com (which is absolutely worth four and a half minutes of your day to watch and you should do so right now), Captain Jack recounts his starring role as Ron Burgundy. He even played the jazz-flute solo, if he is to be believed. "I co-wrote 'Afternoon Delight,'" he says at one point. "I don't know if you knew that." USA Today Sports Jack, Forbes Magazine ranked the 10 most overpaid players in the NBA, and you’re on it. Stephen Jackson: I’ve been underpaid my whole career, so you do the math. It’s adding up. Who cares? Whether they think that or not, I’m still getting paid almost $10 million this year. (Thumbs up to the camera.) San Antonio Express-News Dirk (Nowitzki) and Carmelo (Anthony) are on it. Stephen Jackson: That don’t make no sense. Dirk and Carmelo? Seriously? I can name at least 10 people who are overpaid. One is the worst of all time, and I played with him – Jim McIlvaine. He robbed the league with no mask, no type of weapon. What did they give him? Ninety-nine million (35, actually) and he played one year in Seattle and New Jersey. Jim McIllvaine should be No. 1. At least I got a championship. San Antonio Express-News Jeff McDonald: Stephen Jackson and Matt Bonner had a joint bday party yesterday with an Anchorman theme. Jack went as Ron Burgundy. #notmakingitup Twitter @JMcDonald_SAEN |

Jeff McDonald: Asked to assess Ricky Rubio's first pro triple double, Stephen Jackson said: "He's alright." Then he said some more. More Jackson on Rubio: "He's got some upside, I'll say that. But it's all about winning to me, it's not what you do on your personal stuff." Twitter @JMcDonald_SAEN |

Not all the Spurs were thrilled about the experience. Guard Manu Ginobili was sated from lunch at one of his favorite Italian restaurants near San Francisco’s Union Square when the bus pulled into the In-N-Out parking lot. “I was coming from lunch, so it was a bad idea,” he said. “Tiago (Splitter) and I ate lunch in San Francisco, but it was a team thing, so I ate a burger and had a shake.” Stephen Jackson was ambivalent about the experience. “It was good, but I don’t like In-N-Out like that,” he said. “Fatburger, Sonic, Five Guys, but not In-N-Out. But I ate one.” San Antonio Express-News |

For Stephen Jackson, getting home at the conclusion of the weeklong Western portion of the Spurs’ rodeo road trip meant reuniting with his wife, Renata, to continue the process of recovering from the loss of the child the couple recently lost. Jackson said he and his wife are to learn results of an autopsy conducted after the baby Renata Jackson had been carrying for six and a half months died after a premature birth. “It’s going to be good to get home just to see how she is doing,” Jackson said after the Spurs closed out their nine-game rodeo trip with a victory over the Phoenix Suns on Sunday. “I hope she is fine, hope everything is fine. She’s been on my mind ever since I left. Things are getting better. I’m OK and I’ll get home. We’ll get the autopsy and we’ll go from there.” San Antonio Express-News Detroit Pistons guard Will Bynum didn’t bite when asked about Indiana Pacers forward Tyler Hansbrough’s reputation as a dirty player. “There’s nothing but love between me and Tyler Hansbrough,” Bynum said. “There’s some love going on. That’s all.” Detroit Free Press “It was more out of character for me. I just try to move from it and be ready for the Washington game,” Bynum said. “I kind of got frustrated. Things got out of hand, and I will be looking forward to bouncing back.” Detroit Free Press |

![]() Returning to the game he loves and the team he considers family, Spurs swingman Stephen Jackson suited up Thursday for the first time since learning last week that his wife, Renata, had lost the child she had been carrying for 6 1/2 months. Though Jackson said nothing can salve the pain of losing a child that would have been the first for the couple, who married in 2011, he believes playing basketball and being around teammates will be therapeutic. “I’m as good as I can be,” Jackson said before Thursday’s Spurs-Clippers game at Staples Center. “I’m happy to be back with the team. I need to be back with the team, just for my own sanity. Basketball and being around these guys helps me a lot, so it’s definitely something I needed.” San Antonio Express-News Jackson learned of the loss while the Spurs were on the first phase of the rodeo road trip. He left the team after it arrived in Chicago for a game Feb. 11, missing games in Chicago, Cleveland and Sacramento. Spurs coach Gregg Popovich told Jackson to take as much time away from the team as he needed. “It was an unfortunate situation,” Jackson said. “Very frustrating and emotional and I’m nowhere close to being over it. “My wife is not doing too well, so I’m happy I had a coach like Pop who gave me the time to be with her. In order for me to help her I also have to help myself because this was a baby we were definitely looking forward to having. Being back with the team hopefully is going to help me be able to help my wife even more.” San Antonio Express-News Jackson said daily phone calls from Tim Duncan and support from other members of the Spurs’ family, including owner Peter Holt, general manager R.C. Buford and broadcaster Sean Elliott, have helped him cope. “The family atmosphere of this organization is one of a kind,” he said. “Luckily, I’m on this Spurs’ team while I’m going through this situation because it’s definitely helpful being around these guys.” San Antonio Express-News Jeff McDonald: When a player like Jack -- who once tried to practice the day after getting hit by a car -- leaves a road trip, just assume it's serious. Set to host his own event next month at SXSW, it only makes sense that renowned music head Matt Bonner would enlist the services of teammate/rapper Stephen “Stak 5″ Jackson to fill out the set list. Jackson will be one of six acts performing at Bonner’s Sneakers and Speakers extravaganza, to be held March 13 from noon to 6 p.m. at Club Deville. The event will serve as a fundraiser to help launch the nonprofit organization Bonner recently founded with his brother Luke, the Rock On Foundation. San Antonio Express-News |

Immediately upon seeing Popovich quick-stepping to an exit, a question flashed in the mind of veteran guard Stephen Jackson, whose two technical fouls against the Lakers four days earlier produced both his own ejection and a five-point possession for L.A. “Is that my Dad?” Jackson wondered. “Am I Pop Jr.?” Laughing at his own suggestion, Jackson stressed the bond Popovich’s players feel for a coach willing to take a pair of $2,000 fines on their behalf. “Any time a coach does that, you know what it means: Go out there and play harder, go out there and get this game, even if he’s not on the sideline,” Jackson said. “Every player loves a coach who goes to bat for him. You can’t get better than the way Pop does it.” San Antonio Express-News |

Mayor Bloomberg put a full-court press on Spurs forward Stephen Jackson before the player left a Knicks game Thursday with a sprained ankle. The Knicks ended up winning easily, 100-83. Fans reported Jackson tripped on a waitress, who was crouched on the sidelines with her back to the Madison Square Garden court while serving a drink to the mayor. “He didn’t fall on her,” Bloomberg revealed yesterday during a press conference in The Bronx dealing with schools. “He came close and I just pushed him a little bit.” New York Post |
