Did you have any idea around deadline time you’d be thrown in a trade? Steve Novak: Honestly, no. I hadn’t heard anything about the possibilities to be honest. It’s the trade deadline, so I know it’s possible for everyone, but I didn’t think it at all. I just got a text, was playing Legos with my son and practice was supposed to be at 2 and it got bumped back to 6, so I thought great I’ll just play with my kids. Was playing Legos and got a text from my friend that said ‘Congrats on your new team.’ And I looked and it was literally two minutes before the trade deadline. Typed my name into Twitter and saw the deal. Oklahoman

Jazz newcomer Steve Novak, who has played for a variety of coaches in his 10-year career with seven different teams, has been impressed with Snyder and the way he is coaching the Jazz. “It’s a little different,’’ Novak said. “I’ve played for guys like Jeff Van Gundy and on the opposite side guys like Mike D’Antoni and in between those guys. I think Quin definitely understands for us to be successful, we have to be good defensively and talks about that a lot. But also offensively that’s where he’s a great basketball mind. We see that in the film sessions and in the huddles. He has a lot of offensive stuff that we haven’t even scratched yet.’’ Deseret News

The Utah Jazz announced today that the team has acquired forward Steve Novak and the rights to New York’s 2017 second round draft pick from the Toronto Raptors in exchange for guard Diante Garrett. Novak (6-10, 235, Marquette), the sixth-most accurate three-pointer shooter in NBA history (min. 250 made), is an eight-year veteran who owns averages of 5.0 points and 1.4 rebounds in 13.0 minutes over 414 career games with Houston, L.A. Clippers, Dallas, San Antonio, New York and Toronto. His career .432 (548-1,268) three-point percentage is second only to Golden State’s Stephen Curry (.440) among all active players, while his career .892 free throw percentage would rank fourth if he had enough attempts to qualify.
