Big man Meyers Leonard will sit out when the Blazers play Houston, the second consecutive game he will miss because of a strained left shoulder. "He's not going to play tonight, but he's fine, and he'll be back before you know it," said David Vanterpool, one of the summer league team co-head coaches who will run tonight's game. Leonard injured the shoulder during a practice last week. He will test the shoulder in practice Monday before the team decides if he will play Tuesday in the Blazers' 1 p.m. game against Atlanta. Alex Len broke his right pinky finger when it got caught in an opponent's jersey during his summer league debut Saturday night at Cox Pavilion. He will miss the rest of summer league play and have the finger examined in Phoenix on Monday. Len could not participate in summer league last year after having surgeries on each of his ankles. Because he was not cleared for full basketball activity until training camp last year, this summer was considered vital for the 21-year-old center's development. Len, 21, had added 10 pounds of strength since the end of his rookie season, in which he averaged 8.6 minutes in 42 appearances. Arizona Republic

"A lot of times, professional coaches tell us there is a crossroads between the young NBA players and the overseas guys," Ryan Evans, who could wind up playing in Europe this upcoming season, told FOXSportsWisconsin.com. "After four or five years, sometimes they intersect." Sometimes. For Evans, it's a particularly uphill battle. Not only is he still seeking to exhibit his merits as an NBA-level athlete, but he's also in the midst of a long transition from college power forward to professional small forward. FOXSports.com
