He returned to the starting five with 21 games left in the season and started all 21 that remained. When the playoffs began Saturday, he was once again in that starting role. "Ever since he was returned from not starting to starting again, his focus has been off the charts," Casey said. "Now he still makes mistakes as a young guy will, but most of the time he is making the right reads." Toronto Sun

Asked if he was on a short leash this second playoff run, Casey said Ross' leash was only shortened once -- and that was those 21 games he came off the bench. "No question he's earning it with his defence," Casey said. "I mean he was 0-for-6 from three in Game 1. He has done a good job. He has grown. Since he came back from not starting his attention to detail has been solid. If he makes a mistake, it's an honest mistake. It's not from falling asleep and just not being where he is supposed to be." Toronto Sun

The only problem with those scenarios — fanciful or not — is that Ujiri sees the 24-year-old as the kind of player his team needs, rather than one that should be moved along. “I would be shocked if we did something with Terrence,” Ujiri said Tuesday night. “Trust me. I can’t tell you more how I totally don’t think that would happen before Thursday.” SportsNet

“How many guys on our team can raise up and make a shot with someone in their face, like Terrence? They aren’t many in the league,” said Ujiri. “He’s had lapses on defence but that’s something you grow out of with experience. He is really a two-way player; he has ability to stay in front of guys, he can hit a shot; he’s athletic as hell and he can hit threes. Every team is looking for players like that. SportsNet

Ross has been coming off the bench since mid-January, and though he can shoot, the rest of his game has stagnated — especially his defense. The Raps are listening to incoming offers on Ross, per several league sources, and a couple of power forwards on borderline playoff teams stand out as intriguing targets: David West and Kevin Garnett. The benching of Ross has led to trade speculation, with Toronto eager to beef up its struggling interior defense and Ross an attractive young chip who can be paired with the first-round pick the Raptors will get from the Knicks (the lesser of the picks between New York and Denver) in 2016. But according to league sources, Ross is going nowhere. “Absolutely not,” one rival executive told Sporting News. “They still have a lot of belief in him and there is not much you could do to get him from them.” Sporting News

Toronto has allowed 43.3 point in the paint per game this year, which is just 22nd in the league. But, according to sources, the Raptors won’t use Ross to make that happen, despite his third-season struggles—which actually date back to last year’s postseason. Casey considered benching Ross then, but did not pull the trigger on the move. Ross averaged just 5.0 points in Toronto’s seven-game, first-round loss to Brooklyn, shooting an abysmal 29.8 percent from the field and 16.7 percent from the 3-point line. Sporting News

You work a lot with the young guys. Who do you expect to have a breakout season this year? Bill Bayno: T-Ross and Jonas are still in that stage of their careers where they have a lot of room for improvement. I think they will continue to grow. I think both of those guys can be All-Stars. We drafted Bruno Caboclo, who I think has a tremendous future, but this year it will be hard for him to break in because we have our Top 10 coming back. We're going to work hard to develop him. He's a great kid, he's got a bright future, really listens and learns, has a high basketball IQ. So he's the one guy to watch but I don't think it's his time yet to have a breakout year with the way our roster's shaped up. HoopsHype
