Statement from Billy King: Today we are pleased to announce that we have made an important trade for our team by acquiring 6-foot-8 power forward Thaddeus Young from the Minnesota Timberwolves in exchange for Kevin Garnett. In his 8th year out of Georgia Tech, Young, 26, is having one of his best seasons, averaging 14. 3 points and 5.1 rebounds. He is a terrific multi-dimensional player who will have an immediate impact on the team. In fact, while I was President of the 76ers in 2007, I drafted him with the 12th pick of the first round and I’m thrilled to bring him to Brooklyn. This trade gives our team more athleticism, speed, and youth, and he will be a great complement on the court with Mason Plumlee and Brook Lopez. NBA.com

Ricky Rubio: Wow! Trade after trade after trade. This league is going crazy. Best of luck to my boy @Thaddeus Young Welcome back KG!!!! Can't wait. #Wolves Twitter @rickyrubio9

Alex Kennedy: There's nothing imminent on the Nets-Wolves deal with Thaddeus Young and Kevin Garnett. Source: "Garnett may shoot it down." We'll see. Twitter @AlexKennedyNBA

Alex Kennedy: Source confirms that the Nets and Wolves continue to discuss a Thaddeus Young trade. "Working on it," but nothing is imminent yet. Twitter @AlexKennedyNBA

But the Wolves, sources say, are hopeful that the chance to play out what might be his final NBA season as a member of the team that drafted him out of high school in 1995 -- and under longtime coach Flip Saunders -- could lead Garnett to reconsider. Such a trade, of course, would also mean the hypercompetitive Garnett has to leave the Eastern Conference playoff race to join a team at the bottom of the West. ESPN.com

Marc Stein: ESPN sources say Wolves and Nets have discussed deal to send Thad Young to Brooklyn in exchange for KG ... who of course has no-trade clause. Nostalgic saps like me would naturally love to see KG play it out in Sota. But even if this doesn't happen, KG has already made it clear (through @SpearsNBAYahoo) that he hopes to BUY Wolves someday. Young, 26, is still, well, young enough to be part of a young team’s future, but a clause in his contract allows him either to opt out this summer or opt in for nearly $10 million, either of which could be problematic. The Wolves just acquired Atlanta’s Adreian Payne because they needed more size at Young’s power-forward position. Young said he still wants to be, and can be, part of the Wolves’ future, even if he might fit better on a contender such as Toronto. “Definitely,” he said. “My wife and kids, who wants to keep picking up and moving? But I know it’s a business.” Minneapolis Star-Tribune
