![]() One thing it does is mark someone's territory, or in the case of Thomas Robinson, reminds the Kings that he was ever with them. Inside the Kings' practice facility, a pair of white and purple Nike shoes hang from a beam in the rafters. Robinson tossed them there on his last night in Sacramento. Was there any meaning? "I was just trying to see if I could get my shoes up there," Robinson said. "Somebody else was in there with me, but I can't say the name." Sacramento Bee Robinson said the trade "was a shock," but the situation is part of the business of the NBA. The rookie said he's comfortable with his role on the Rockets, even if it means not playing all the time, because he knows what to expect. Robinson said he doesn't look back with sadness on his time with the Kings. "I don't have any regrets," Robinson said. "I'm glad the Kings gave me a chance and drafted me. They put me in the league." ![]() SLAM: Do you feel like you got a fair shake in Sacramento? Thomas Robinson: I felt like I didn’t get a fair chance to show what I got put in this League for and I really don’t know why but I do know that I got a chance here. SLAM: From the outside looking in, the Kings look like a soup sandwich. Is that really the case? TR: I won’t say all that. Every team, got they problems. That’s about as far as I can go with that [laughs]. SLAM |

How do you feel about being traded in your rookie year? Thomas Robinson: I don’t know…happy, disrespected. Somewhere between those two. I feel like I got dumped. That’s how I feel. Bad breakup. So I’m gonna make my ex hate me the next time they see me. SLAM |

But according to Robinson’s former teammate, Tyreke Evans, the rookie was frustrated with his role in Sacramento and likely needed a change of scenery to truly develop. Evans compared Robinson’s rookie year to date with current Utah Jazz forward Derrick Favors, the No. 3 pick of the 2010 draft, who was involved in trade rumors from the day Brooklyn drafted him until being traded 56 games into his rookie season. “[Robinson] is going to be pretty good,” Evans told HOOPSWORLD. “He’s young and got a lot of talent. He was a little frustrated here, but the same thing [happened] with Derrick Favors. He was in New Jersey frustrated, went to Utah and now he’s playing good.” HoopsWorld |

After signing Carlos Delfino last summer, Morey could sacrifice others in a trade without weakening the team, and that's how he squeezed the Kings for Thomas Robinson, the No. 5 pick. Look, Robinson was unimpressive with the Kings, but he's only 21 and the Rockets put themselves in position to give him a chance to become a solid player, without tapping into their prime assets. It was a worthy gamble. If Robinson is slow to develop, you figure Morey will use him to turn 50 cents into a dollar once again. "We tried to move up to get Thomas Robinson in the draft." Morey said. "He led the country in rebounding. He can run the floor. He's a big- time athlete, a guy you want around the rim. We think he'll get quality minutes and turn into a quality player." SportsonEarth |

The surprise trade sent Patterson, along with Cole Aldrich and Toney Douglas were shipped to Sacramento in exchange for Thomas Robinson, Francisco Garcia and Tyler Honeycutt on Wednesday. "For me it was a big surprise, I had no idea or any clue that I was going to get traded," the 23-year-old Patterson told News10 from Houston on Thursday afternoon. "I had a belief that I was still going to be wearing a Houston Rockets uniform, but obviously it didn't work out that way. "I was definitely surprised, shocked and caught off guard," he said. news10.net After the shock subsided Wednesday night, Patterson said he's ready for a fresh start in Sacramento. "Since yesterday - I'm cool, I'm level headed," he said. "I'm ready for this transition to start, I'm ready to be a Sacramento King and get the ball rolling." news10.net The motivation remains murky, partly a money deal and partly an admission of guilt or what has become chronic franchise incompetence. Sources close to the Kansas Jayhawks insist that, in contrast to other organizations with high lottery picks, the Kings were the least inquisitive. While Robinson's stay in Sacramento was surprisingly short, a few things quickly stood out, among them his exaggerated 6-foot-10 size, his raw offensive skills and a temperament that contributed to an already dysfunctional locker room. Surely the former Kansas standout is to be admired for overcoming personal tragedy and adversity, but he maintained a sense of entitlement fueled by his lofty draft status as was often noted by Kings coach Keith Smart.
