"In terms of contract, I'm not worried about that at all," Thompson said to NEOMG. "My main focus, especially with this new team, is how we can gel and trying to pick up coach [David] Blatt's philosophy. My mindset is solely on how I can help this team win and help us grow as a franchise. As long as we win, that's all that matters and everything else will take care of itself." Cleveland Plain Dealer

What hasn’t been discussed is a contract extension for him – at least not yet. The two sides haven’t really discussed numbers, one source involved in the process said recently, but that isn’t a surprise. Kyrie Irving is the only member of the 2011 class thus far to sign an extension, although guys like Klay Thompson, Kenneth Faried and Kawhi Leonard could be next. The deadline to sign is Oct. 31. Don’t rule out the possibility of Tristan Thompson starting at center. While it has been widely assumed Anderson Varejao would start in the middle, a theory has been floated within the organization recently that by starting Thompson, coach David Blatt could better limit Varejao’s minutes and help protect him from injury. There is plenty of time to make that final decision, but it’s worth noting the idea has at least been discussed. Akron Beacon Journal

I’m not promising a championship. I know how hard that is to deliver. We’re not ready right now. No way. Of course, I want to win next year, but I’m realistic. It will be a long process, much longer than it was in 2010. My patience will get tested. I know that. I’m going into a situation with a young team and a new coach. I will be the old head. But I get a thrill out of bringing a group together and helping them reach a place they didn’t know they could go. I see myself as a mentor now and I’m excited to lead some of these talented young guys. I think I can help Kyrie Irving become one of the best point guards in our league. I think I can help elevate Tristan Thompson and Dion Waiters. And I can’t wait to reunite with Anderson Varejao, one of my favorite teammates. Sports Illustrated

The Cavaliers sold Paul in the meeting on a core of Kyrie Irving, Andrew Wiggins, Paul's client, Tristan Thompson, three first-round picks in 2015 and significant salary-cap space. For James, Cleveland would be a homecoming, the reversal of his infamous decision four years go. Yahoo! Sports

The Cavs also can offer Tristan Thompson an extension, but they probably will wait another year. He is under contract for $5.1 million in 2014-15. In he summer of 2015, he'll be a restricted free agent. Thompson averaged 11.7 points and 9.2 rebounds, shooting .477 from the field. The Cavs want Thompson to concentrate more on his defense and rebounding. His offense remains raw, and at times, he forces shots. Cleveland Plain Dealer

Mary Schmitt Boyer: Last summer, the Cavs offered the No. 1 pick, Tristan Thompson and Dion Waiters for Love and the Wolves weren't interested. Unfortunately for the Cavs, their best assets are guards, and the Wolves don't need guards. So I'm not sure they can pry away Love. Cleveland Plain Dealer

Brian Windhorst: I know Tristan has dreams of getting what Derrick Favors got [four years, $49 million]. I think that’s insane money for him. I think Tristan’s much better off getting paid $6 or $7 million a year, but he’s never going to agree to that. And if you agree to $10 million a year for him, you could really get burned. It’s going to be difficult when it comes to that, especially because he’s represented by the same people who represent LeBron. Now, if you know you’re getting LeBron, you’re like “I’ll give you $12 million a year. Hey, take $14 million a year. Whatever.” ESPN.com

What's the price? A young player who can help contribute to the team right now -- especially someone who can give them some much-needed depth on their front line. They'd love to get their hands on Kevin Love. But the Wolves would want much more than Barnes. The Pistons' Greg Monroe, the Sixers' Thaddeus Young, the Cavs' Tristan Thompson, the Nuggets Kenneth Faried, the Bucks' John Henson and the Raptors' Amir Johnson all intrigue the Warriors. Whether any of those teams are willing to give up that much to acquire Barnes remains to be seen. ESPN.com

As for the YouTube clip labeled "J.R. Smith Breaks Tristan Thompson's Ankles," Thompson wanted to clarify that he tripped on teammate Tyler Zeller's foot. Still, the clip of him falling has been shared often in the past tow days. "I was a social media star for a while there," Thompson joked. "But now that Kenneth Faried got dunked on (by Terrence Ross), I'm OK." Cleveland Plain Dealer

James, who has developed relationships with Irving and Thompson, was polite after the comfortable victory. When asked about Irving struggling, LeBron replied, "I think they're all all struggling, and it trickled down to him as well. He's an unbelievable talent, we all know that, but they're all struggling and trying to find exactly who their identity is offensively and defensively. If they get things in order, they have some really good pieces here and I know Mike is pushing them to get better. We'll see what happens." Bleacher Report
