Tyler Zeller is known for running the floor like a 7-foot gazelle. But in the short time he has been in Boston, his new teammates and coaches have seen there's more to his game. Even head coach Brad Stevens who has known Zeller and his family for years after he tried to recruit Tyler's older brother Luke to Butler, is seeing a side of the big man he didn't know existed. "Probably the thing I've been, maybe the biggest surprise about Tyler Zeller has been the way he passes the ball," Stevens said. CSNNE.com

The major issue entering training camp is the lack of a veteran presence at center. So far, newcomer Tyler Zeller and second-year player Vitor Faverani are the primary candidates to start. “The funny part is most of you [the media] will be put in a position where you have to name our starting lineup and our rotation and put it down in pencil,” Stevens said. “If you go through it and really put yourself in my shoes, there’s about 150 versions of this that you can go with, more so than last year. And I thought last year we were pretty hard to figure out, so it’s been a fun puzzle to think about but it’s been a puzzle that will figure itself out once we start practice.” Boston Globe

Danny Ainge isn't all that different than most GMs when it comes to wanting to have lots of options in pulling off deals. That's why today is significant for the Celtics' president of basketball operations in his quest to get Boston's roster in order. Tyler Zeller and Marcus Thornton, both acquired via trade on July 10, are now eligible to be included in trades in which they can be paired with other Celtics players. CSNNE.com

Zeller's agent Sam Goldfeder said his client should also benefit from having a familiarity with Celtics head coach Brad Stevens who recruited both of his brothers. "Coach Stevens is someone the Zeller family thought a great deal about as a man," Goldfeder told CSNNE.com. "Forget about basketball. Everyone knows he's a great basketball coach. But they really liked him as a person. He's a good person and Tyler is also a good person. They share similar values off the court. I think that obviously, Brad expects excellence on the court, discipline, hard work and that's what Tyler is all about." CSNNE.com
