It’s one of the biggest moments of Taylor’s life, he was picked up by his hometown squad, and at the forefront of his brain is a 1/15th of one percent minority owner. “That’s the first thing you think about when you think about the Nets,” Taylor says. “When I first got drafted and Portland traded me to Brooklyn, that’s the first thing I thought about – to be with Jay Z. “I thought that was so dope.” New York Daily News |

Now the second-round draft pick is gearing up for his first season in the NBA while playing in familiar surroundings. “Being from New Jersey, kind of growing up a Nets fan, then them moving to Brooklyn and end up playing for them is kind of weird,” Taylor said. Lawrence Journal-World For example, he isn’t worried about any childhood friends trying to form an entourage and ask him for cash. “I think that’s going to happen whether I’m home or not. It’s a little bit easier for them to get access to me being close to home. It was something I was going to have to deal with anyway,” Taylor said. “I am dealing with it. It is what it is. I can say no. I know who I can give money to and who not. It’s cool. Being in New York is not hard. It’s where I’m from. I am home thinking I’m Tyshawn, but I’m not just Tyshawn to everybody else.” Lawrence Journal-World |

In another indication of Mikhail Prokhorov's willingness to spend, league sources say the Nets paid out $2.75 million on Draft Night to secure the draft rights of Tyshawn Taylor, taken at #41, and Toko Shengelia, taken at #54. The Nets paid the Trail Blazers $2 million for Taylor's rights and the 76ers $750,000 for Shengelia's. In both cases, the Nets had the other team make their pick, then immediately bought the draft rights. In addition to the money spent on the rights, the Nets paid Shengelia's Belgian team a $300,000 buyout and gave both players guaranteed two- year deals, knowing that they would have to pay dollar-for-dollar luxury taxes on both. Taylor and Shengelia will be paid $473,604 in their first year and $788,872 in the second for a total of $1,262,476 ... plus an equal amount in luxury taxes. The Nets were under no obligation to sign either to a guaranteed deal. NetsDaily |
