Almost 20 years later, Mashburn attempted to set the record straight about the Kidd-Jackson-Braxton love triangle. “She definitely cost me relationships with Jimmy Jackson and Jason Kidd,” Mashburn said on KRLD-FM. “I necessarily wouldn’t even put it on here. I think at that time Jimmy and Jason were going through their own particular issues. From my understanding, being in the locker room, there was no truth to the Toni Braxton part. She played a part in it from the standpoint that she had an album out at the time, or was about to release it, called ‘Secrets.’ She went on the Dallas airwaves and said she doesn’t kiss and tell. She’s a beautiful women, but I think it did cost us because of egos, being so young, not having a lot of direction and leadership on the Dallas Mavericks at that particular time. There were some leadership changes with the ownership and coaching changes. It cost us being a pretty darn good basketball team for years to come.
Toledo’s city council honored legendary local hoopster Jimmy Jackson with his own street in his hometown. Woodstock Avenue from Dorr to Nebraska will now be known as Jimmy Jackson Way. Jackson starred at Macomber High School before embarking on an All-American basketball career at Ohio State.
As the Bell administration continues to transform the image of city government, it apparently has adopted more of a forgive-and-forgot policy. City leaders recently decided to name a street after a businessman whom Toledo once sued, and they also granted a low-interest $100,000 loan to another man who owed thousands in back payroll taxes — someone who also was sued by the city. Toledo City Council will consider legislation Tuesday to rename Woodstock Avenue from Dorr Street to Nebraska Avenue as “Jimmy Jackson Way.”
