Kevin Calabro Rumors
The Portland Trail Blazers have completed the offseason overhaul of their television and radio broadcast teams. The Blazers hired veteran play-by-play announcer Kevin Calabro to become the new face of Blazers television broadcasts in June, shortly after parting ways with the longtime broadcast duo of Mike Barrett and Mike Rice. Now the team is set to hire Lamar Hurd as the analyst alongside Calabro, The Oregonian/OregonLive has confirmed.
Veteran broadcaster Kevin Calabro, who the Portland Trail Blazers have hired to replace Mike Barrett as their new television play-by-play announcer, knows what you might be thinking: While he may have spent over two decades working for one of the Trail Blazers’ most bitter rivals, those allegiances are long behind him. “People shouldn’t have any misgivings about me being a Sonics guy coming down there,” said Calabro prior to calling Game 6 of the 2016 NBA Finals. “The Sonics have moved on, I’ve moved on, it’s a new chapter and I’m excited to get going.”
For 21 years the voice of the Sonics, Kevin Calabro this weekend was a face at the All-Star Game that reminded everyone of Seattle. And virtually every player, coach, team official and media member who greeted Calabro did so carrying optimism about the imminent return of the NBA to Seattle. “They are giving me a wink and a nod that it looks good, you guys are back in the league next year,” said Calabro, who worked events this weekend for ESPN Radio. “And I’m the one that’s got to tamp it down a little bit.”
