Phil Knight Rumors
Back in Portland for nine days as a part of ESPN’s television broadcast at the PK80 Invitational, the Portland Trail Blazers legend has a few subjects on his mind. “Life is grand,” he says while seated court side at the Moda Center on Wednesday evening while DePaul University goes through a brief practice in front of him. “I work for ESPN. I get the privilege of calling this tournament, the greatest tournament in the history of college basketball. In tribute and honor and appreciation of the most important man in all sports, (Phil Knight). In a place that I love dearly, Oregon. It’s tremendous.”
This year is the first ever PK80 tournament in Portland, Oregon, honoring Nike founder Phil Knight’s 80th birthday. And in honor of the event, LeBron James gifted several teams their own versions of the LeBron 15. Of course, James had to hook up his Buckeyes.
Nike co-founder Phil Knight has stepped down from his role of chairman on the brand’s board of directors, Street Insider reports. The management change means a promotion for Mark Parker, CEO and president of Nike since 2006, who will now serve as chairman. “Phil’s impact on Nike is immeasurable,” said Parker. “His entrepreneurial drive is and always will be part of our DNA.”
