Rich Gotham Rumors
There will be an opportunity for Rajon Rondo and Ray Allen to get together after all, as Celtics team president Rich Gotham confirmed to the Globe that the organization will be holding a 10th-anniversary reunion of the 2008 team, and that all members will be invited. It will soon be 10 years since the Celtics brought the 17th championship back to Boston, and although Rondo has said that Allen would not be invited to an unofficial reunion vacation trip this summer, the Celtics are planning a more formal gathering of that championship team.
“We are talking about it, but we haven’t started planning it,” Gotham said. “Presumably, we’ll invite the guys back, and we haven’t gotten to the stage where we’ll put the pen to the paper with exactly how we want to do this and how would it fit with the context of our season next year. A., you think through how to do it the right way, and B., how to fit it into the NBA schedule and some of the guys you invite back and see what their schedules are.”
Gotham said the plans will be finalized over the summer. It was been well documented that Kevin Garnett and Rondo and to a lesser extent Pierce still have ill feelings about Allen’s decision to sign with the Miami Heat after the 2011-12 season for half the salary the Celtics offered.
There are no plans for the City of Boston to host an All-Star Game although the league’s spring classic has not been held in Boston in 53 years. The NBA has been seeking cities to host the game — it is returning to Los Angeles in 2018 after a seven-year absence — but Gotham said Boston has not applied. The question is why. “I wouldn’t say no interest at all,” Gotham said. “I would just say as far as the priorities for the organization go, it just hasn’t risen to the top.”
