Steve Hetzel Rumors

The Cavs are on the prowl for a coach for the Canton Charge of the National Basketball Development League after Steve Hetzel joined Steve Clifford’s staff in Charlotte. Hetzel was clearly a Mike Brown guy and might have seen the writing on the wall. Two possible replacements could be James Posey or Jordi Fernandez.
The Charlotte Hornets will hire Canton Charge head coach Steve Hetzel as an assistant coach, Yahoo Sports reported on Thursday. The Charlotte Observer confirmed the report but added that nothing was official yet. Hetzel started as a Cavaliers video coordinator during Mike Brown’s first stint in Cleveland, then moved to Detroit as an assistant to John Kuester.
Player development is the name of the game for the youthful Cavaliers. A league source said Steve Hetzel has accepted the job as head coach of the Canton Charge of the National Basketball Development League. He will replace former Charge coach Alex Jensen, who left after two seasons to become a developmental coach on Tyrone Corbin’s staff with the Jazz. The Cavs are still reportedly working on contract details. They’ve put a strong emphasis on player development on the Cavs with so many young, emerging players. They have eight players on their roster 25 or younger, including rookies Anthony Bennett, Sergey Karasev and Carrick Felix.
