Woodson on Pacers PG injuries: "We gotta continue to keep the pressure up and make it a battle, because that's what it's gonna be."
Mayor press conference starting now
Second question and Woodson got a little testy. We're off and running
Mike Wooson on Jason Kidd and Amar'e Stoudemire: "Those two guys just have to be ready to play. At this point it's just about winning."
Woodson on Kidd/Amar'e: "Those two guys just have to be ready to play. At this point, it's about winning."
…Ranadive, who saved the day for the most noble of reasons: to honor a place that played a big role in his success.
Just FYI: Wolves have talked to Maryland C Alex Len but not Indiana's Cody Zeller here in Chicago
…Kings. That's what I was led to believe. I'm happiest for those in Sacramento who remain employed because the team is staying and Vivek...
Crowd at city hall is already loud & Mayor's not even here yet.
George Hill had 26 points in Game 4. And he can defend. But he's not a factor? Come on now.
Jackie Carmichael. 30" standing vert. 32" max vert.
For those who care: I was wrong. For those unaware: I did a radio bit suggesting the Maloofs would be slow to relinquish control over the…
So yes, Copeland was terrific, J.R. made a shot and Melo scored in the 4th Q. But no Granger, no Hill, 14 missed free throws & 19 turnovers.
I am SOOOO finished with the Seattle stuff... I am moving on... No more answers to Seattle tweets
Seriously, the Pacers are already playing without Danny Granger. If George Hill is out, they're not winning.
For the record: Knicks conference call waiting music > Nets conference call waiting music.
Amazing how J.R.'s impact in Game 5 was overblown while George Hill's absence was underplayed. One guy went 4-for-11, the other didn't play
Indiana teammates Oladipo & Cody Zeller competing in everything. Zeller's sprint time 3.15, Oladipo's 3.16. "Let's go again," Oladipo said
Thumbnail of WCF matchup: Grizz play great defense, so they'll be in every game; Grizz can't shoot, so Spurs will be in every game. Fair?
ODI (Grange). Scotland (135) lose to Pakistan (231-7) by 96 runs
Bills coach Tom Thibodeau is at the combine. Someone should tell Thibs it's OK to take a day off
Saric is considered a lottery pick, but he is not at the Chicago combine
The LuAnn Platter. That's what they call the special at Luby's. Should have remembered: There's a King of the Hill character named after it.
Without knowing severity of George Hill's concussion, hard to predict timetable for return. Some have missed several games; some just one.
But speaking of high-volume SGs... My understanding is 1 of Vivek Ranadive's favorite recent GSW players was... Monta Ellis. Just a note.
Man, these talking heads have people really believing the HEAT's 45-3 run isn't an impressive feat.
On the same trip that Olshey made to France in late April to scout Gobert, he stopped in Croatia to scout 6-10 SF Dario Saric.
By the way, the French center Gobert says his goal is to be a top 7 pick. Not sure that's going to happen.
The list of participants is not official yet, but Ricky Ledo was on the initial list I got a look at. He's a guy who will command attention
Based on NBA Combine, draft stock of Indiana guys Cody Zeller and Victor Oladipo flying high. Same with Michigan's Tim Hardaway Jr.
Len unable to do ht/wt measurements because he's still on crutches. Wingspan is 7-3 1/2. He's hopeful to be back on court mid/late Aug
The key thing the two-day Nets Draft workout will provide next week is the opportunity to see those guys go live 5-on-5, not just drills.
Len didn't play bkball til 13, said he liked watching Zydrunas Ilgauskas & sees similarities in their games. Also similar to Valanciunas
Victor Oladipo didn't believe IU teammate Cody Zeller ran the 3/4 sprint faster until he heard his time. Then he said, "Let's do it again."
Interesting dilemma for Phil Jackson. The teams he wants are the ones he can't have.
Plumlee touted his length and athleticism. "I'd like to be with a team that likes to get out and run," Plumlee said.
It seems the Sacramento Kings have finally defeated Phil Jackson in a game that mattered. Who knows, though?
Cody Zeller was asked abt his brother Tyler moving up in last yr's draft when he returned to Indiana: "I haven't seen any of that money yet"
All Memphis media got an email this morning entitled: "NBA Finals Media Credential Application." Used to be lottery credentials.
Duke C Mason Plumlee said he believes he will workout with the Blazers. "I'm a guy who is ready to come in and play right away," he said.
Maryland center Alex Len said he'll meet with Cavs today. He's on crutches.
I think I'm most excited for Gus' Fried Chicken in Memphis. How can you go wrong with a place called "Gus' Fried Chicken?"
Look for my piece on Mark Jackson in this week's Sports Illustrated, which coincidentally doubles as a postmortem on the Warriors' season.
Maryland center Alex Len said he'll have meeting with the Cavs today
Tim Hardaway Jr. 31.5" standing vert. 37.5" max vert. He's having a very good day.
Former South Dakota State star Nate Wolters has a hip flexor so he'll only be doing upper body testing today at the combine.
Thx for all the food recs in SA + Mem everybody. Looks like the words "healthy" and "gluten-free" will not be in my West Finals future.
Add Gonzaga center Kelly Olynyk to list of players the Bucks have interviewed at pre-draft camp.
For everyone in Seattle... this wasn't about you. It was about Sacramento, and Sacramento answered...
Kelly Olynyk. 24.5" standing vert. 29.5" max vert. 3.59 sec sprint. 11.42 lane agility.
Hsd been thinking McLemore-Muhammad would be the best matchup at individual workouts. Now convinced it's Burke-Schroeder. A great show.
Alex Len says in 10 years he wants to be the best player in this class. Not lacking confidence.
I'd pay big money to watch a sports media combine.
Fran Fraschilla on probable top 2-3 pick Ben McLemore: "He doesn't have an alpha dog mentality." Ouch
Kentavious Caldwell-Pope. 29" standing vert. 34.5" max vert.
Gobert said he is good friends with Nic Batum and recently spent time with the Blazers forward in Paris
Maryland center Alex Len said he has no interviews scheduled with Portland at the combine.
Gobert had the longest wing span at the NBA Combine 7'8.5", but was less-than-impressive in his leaping - 25 standing vertical, 29 max vert
Allen Crabbe. 30.5" standing vert. 36" max vert. Surprising numbers for him.
Then again, we knew Oladipo could jump and Zeller was athletic.
Victor Oladipo with a 33" standing vert and a 42" max vert. Wow.
Maryland center Alex Len met with the Bobcats Thursday night. He claims 10 years from now he'll be best player in 2013 draft.
Joked with Nerlens Noel about his 206 weight... admitted he's dropped weight since the injury, would normally be in the 220 range.
Blazers GM Neil Olshey flew to France to scout French center Rudy Gobert at the end of April. "I showed what I had to show," Gobert said.
Under policy, it's within realm of possibility that George Hill could return for Game 6. Also conceivable he could be out for weeks.
Quick note on George Hill and NBA concussion protocols: There is NO specific timeline for a player returning from concussion. Case by case.
The Magic interviewed Pitt and New Zealand big Steven Adams on Thursday night.
Pablo Prigioni turns 36 today - which means he's still too young for the Knicks.
Mike Goodson....The Jets
Cody Zeller's wingspan and vertical didn't seem to help much when Cuse's bigs were going Karch Kiraly on his shot attempts.
Mostly, the pick would cost money. The source emphasized that GSWs haven't made any decisions. Could look for more veteran help.
NBA source: If they choose, GSWs believe they can acquire either 1st- or 2nd round pick in this draft. They have no picks at the moment.
To quote Ralph Wiggum, whenever I get coffee at the Dunkin Donuts in Penn Station, it tastes like burning.
Yahoo reporting the Atlanta Hawks could choose CSKA Moscow's Ettore Messina as their new coach.
Long post on why Pop benched Tim Duncan and why it worked coming shortly.
Cody Zeller does 17 reps of 185 bench. Anyone who lifts seriously will tell you bench is almost worthless move but that's a good #.
I know Kelly has a foot injury, so he can't run right now. But 14.8% body fat? He must love that "Hot Donuts Now" sign.
Just saw Indiana's Cody Zeller put up 185 lbs 17 times (depending on whether they count the final one) on the press. That ain't weak.
Duke's Ryan Kelly had by far the highest body-fat content at the NBA draft combine at 14.8%. Only 2 others were above 10%.
Duke PG Seth Curry officially stands 6' 1" without shoes, 6' 3" with shoes. He's at 9 percent body fat, highest among PGs attending combine.
So happy to break out the Wash/Dead Prez theme song again today. The great Ron Washington joins us at 3:00 on the Ben & Skin Show - 105.3 FM
Ricky Ledo was great yesterday but he's struggled quite a bit today. Not shooting or defending well & seems to lack confidence. Project guy?
What makes that unlikely for George Hill is that we don't know when his 24-hour symptom-free period will start.
So Rudy Gobert can't jump. When you can stand flat-footed and reach 9' 7" off the floor, with 7-8 1/2 wingspan, does it matter?
Possible to miss only 1 game from a concussion under current NBA policy. Darrell Arthur suffered one on Friday, played Monday.
Pretty obvious name to watch for Kings GM position: Travis Schlenk from the Warriors. Vivek knows him well.
The Celtics bench in that Game 7 in 2009: Eddie House, Stephon Marbury, Brian Scalabrine, Tony Allen, Gabe Pruitt, Mikki Moore, Bill Walker
Jason Kidd has not scored a single point over the past nine games for the Knicks. Jason Kidd has missed all 17 of his attempts from field
Cody Zeller with the fastest sprint time among bigs 3.15 sec
Four years ago today, the Orlando Magic eliminated the KG-less Boston Celtics in Game 7 of the Eastern Conference Semifinals.
Kenny Kadji with a surprising 38" max vert and a 34" standing vert. Very surprising.
Just learned that Popeye Jones' son has a chance to be the No. 1 pick in the NHL Draft. Yeah, hockey! Who knew?
Mason Plumlee with a 10.89 sec lane agility drill and a 3.29 3/4 court sprint. Good numbers. No surprise.
Gonzaga lottery bound C Kelly Olynyk stands 6' 10.75" without shoes and 7' 0" with shoes. His wingspan is 6' 9.75" and he's at 6.7 body fat.
Mike Woodson will address the media via conference call at 1 p.m. Team is off today in anticipation of Game 6 tomorrow in Indianapolis
Good Morning & Congratulations to all the new 2013 Graduates celebrating a huge accomplishment today!
Fairly long two on two half-court session here among the SGs giving us a decent chance to evaluate players' ball-handling/on-ball defense.
Fan feedback: What impressed you most about New Orleans PG Brian Roberts' play during the second half of the 2012-13 season?
Cody Zeller with a 37.5" max vert and a good 10.82 sec lane agility drill. Best athlete of the centers here from a testing standpoint.
Cavs GM Chris Grant says he doesn't think this is weak draft. Also, expect Cavs to try to be bigger players in free agency than recent years
On Zeller's wingspan: 6-10 3/4 isn't great for a 7-footer, but it's nearly three inches longer than the 6-8 reported during the season.
At combine so not exactly!
Thing to keep in mind is there are plenty of guys in the NBA who couldn't shoot a lick between age 18-20 and developed into solid shooters.
Rudy Gobert with a 25 inch standing vertical and a 29" max vert. Not great numbers.
How B.J. Young shot 40% for 3 as a freshman is one of the world's great mysteries. He's shot the ball 100 different ways here. None working.
For all those saying players could wear lifts: have everyone wear the same brand/type of shoes when being measured.
Gotta feel for Archie Goodwin. He really can't buy a basket here in Chicago. Seems to be a mental thing at this point. He's better than this
Charles Woodson's agent tells AP Woodson will visit with Oakland on Tuesday...would've gone sooner, but he's doing charity work in Ann Arbor
Without shoes UCLA lottery prospect G/F Shabazz Muhammad stands 6' 4.75". With shoes he's 6' 6.25". He's at 9 percent body fat.
Cody Zeller isn't participating in drills but his strong measurements (wingspan, body fat, vertical) make the combine a win for him
Cody Zeller with a VERY impressive 35.5" standing vertical. Wow. Mason Plumlee 30.5" standing vert
Will ask one more time re: measurements from Pre-Draft camp--why do they bother measuring without shoes? Does anyone play without shoes?
Allen Crabbe and Tim Hardaway Jr seem to be showing the highest skill-level in the shooting guard group. Caldwell-Pope struggling again.
Also, Kenny Kadji: 6-8 3/4 without shoes, 6-10 with shoes (241.6 pounds)
Two Magic strength coaches -- Joe Rogowski and Anthony Harvey -- are helping run the tests, as are other teams' strength coaches.
Two important NBA combine numbers for Shane Larkin: Height without shoes 5-10 1/4. With shoes: 5-11 1/2. (Also, weight 170.8).
The physical tests, like the vertical jump, are underway at the NBA Draft Combine.
Seattle group could not have been any stronger. Deep pocketed, passionate owner(s). Arena deal. Disappointed, but their time will come.
Steven Adams with a 28.5 inch standing vertical leap
SG crop is playing something resembling actual basketball now - 4 on 3 half-court. Unfortunately too little to draw any real conclusions...
Excited to spend next 2 weeks in 2 cities I've never been to: San Antonio + Memphis. Right now Dry Rub BBQ is a -130 favorite over TexMex.
Steven Adams vertical looked really impressive from where I saw it. He can get up for a 7 footer.
Five minutes at NBA Draft Combine in Chicago, friend comes over, shaking his head: "Your Mayor. Wow"
Proposed book: collected first-person accounts of City Hall reporters during Ford's tenure. I'll buy 10 copies.
That said, some teams don't like Oladipo's game, think he's just an athlete. Hearing Cavs one of them, although not directly from them.
Indiana G Victor Oladipo came off very well at NBA Draft Combine. Looked great in drills, strong interviews with teams, a hit w/the media.
How old is the Axtell story? E-N called me on spring break to help cover it. And I couldn't get email at the folks' house.
If Heat make NBA Finals, their home dates would be: Thu. June 6, Sun. June 9, Tue. June 18 and Thu. June 20. Road: June 11, 13, 16.
Congratulations to all my USC friends getting hammered at the 9-0 right now before graduation.
Ownership sources agree the involvement of David Stern was critical in the process. Kings were in constant contact. Seattle group wasn't.
Sources also say that hedge fund manager Chris Hansen will not file any lawsuits in relation to the Kings/Seattle situation.
Steven Adams actually shot 72% from the floor in 15 footer on Thursday.
League sources say owners offered to pay Hansen-Ballmer group the $30 million non-refundable deposit they paid the Maloofs. They declined
Truth is, Lakers fans are mostly numb right now.
Combine stats: Heaviest Colton Iverson 262.8, tallest Kenny Kadji 7-3, most body fat Ryan Kelly 14.8, shortest Pierre Jackson 5-10.5
Notable spring/summer Texas graduates: Vince Young, Case McCoy, Austin "169 pitches" Wood, and ... Luke Axtell.
The money is great for the trust fund babies, but the Lakers always have to do a lot of splainin' about that huge TV deal. Yes, but...
When the Lakers have won big, they've always had a great player in the post. Could they find themselves without both Pau and DHo next year?
Woulda been good training for Jim Buss to dial people up and ask 'em for those big bucks for season tickets. That's why Jeanie's so sharp
The Lakers season ticket sales people are dialing up folks+having interesting conversations about next year. Who'll be back+who won't.
Twitter game! Longest possible string of linked NBA first and last names. Example: CP3 + Paul George + George Hill = Chris Paul George Hill
I'll say this about Shabazz: He isn't ducking the competition. Most top prospects sit out here every year. Muhammad has been on the court.
As many are noting, Spurs-Grizz reg season included key absences on both sides & a scheduling quirk. That's the NBA. Still very competitive.
Steven Adams continues to tantalize GM's with his potential. Having a very good two days here. His high skill level is real.
Spurs have the depth to give the Grizz problems. Grizz have Gasol & Randolph. Whichever asset outweighs the other should be the difference
Teams are all over the map on Mike Muscala. Some thing he's a major sleeper. Others don't think he's a NBA player at all. I like him a lot.
Tony Parker made more 3-point shots than 2-point shots last night. No way that's happened before.
Jeff Withey clearly more of a 5 on 5 guy. Body doesn't look great compared to other big men, and he hasn't been so impressive in the drills.
Spahija for Croatian NT? Repesa: 'He is available and he is ready to take the national team. He is a great coach'
