While I do find it crap that the Mavs had only 10 FTs in a gm they attacked the rim aggressively and often, Mavs lost this, not the refs.
Shane Battier on McLemore's attempted charge: "At some point, you just cut your losses and do the fake trip and say, ‘Oh well, I tried.’"
I keep expecting the Suns to look down and realize they've run off the cliff at some point, but it hasn't happened yet.
Turnovers are starting to pile up in the half court.
Wes Johnson looked like Randy Moss on that grab. Oh boy.
Nice play Denver drew up with the double screen, but the 3 was a tad too deep for Foye
Lakers turning the ball over - looking like a team with no pg
Celebrity watching: actress Allison Janney http://t.co/uePeQ5ZJSE
More Horford on Paul: "It will be interesting to see when we go to Utah, maybe he will get a little [emotional]. He's one of those guys."
Horford on Millsap: "You would have never guessed that he had played there. He looked normal. It was just another game for him.
Henry tried to throw a lob to Pau - didn't end well
Nick Young's playing well again, hitting 4 of his 5 shots for 11 points, 1 fewer than Henry. LAL up 44-33 halfway through the 2nd.
Lakers push lead back to 11 44-33
Pau couldn’t have played that Barea-Pek P&R better on the defensive end.
The Lakers are so awesome without point guards, they might just cut Marshall at halftime. BK
I think Trey Burke would've helped them tonight. 2 pts (1-8 FG), 3 assists for Utah tonight. Not bashing Trey, but making fun of the stans
Pau with the Dirk special. Lakers back up nine.
"It's just unfortunate. I thought we were taking a step forward but we took another one back today," Hayward said.
LAL already have 13 assists on 16 FG's w/7:53 to play in the 2nd Q. They average 23.2 on the season, tied for 6th w/Minnesota (8 tonight).
This Snoop Lion NBA/ESPN/Christmas promo is great.
Abort the tank?
As uncomplicated as Mo Cheeks is, he probably made it too complicated tonight with pulling Dre. That said, they weren't stopping ANYBODY
Dwight Howard on Indiana: "They are a well-seasoned team. You can tell they’ve been together for a couple of years. … They kicked our a**."
Tough one tonight lads, Toronto in OT 109-108, despite 23 from Jose Calderón for Dallas. DeMar Derozan hit a shot with 1:11 to go for winner
Sacre with the mid range jumper on the baseline. Lakers up 40-32.
Again, the 32 points off of turnovers by the Raptors is easily the most the Mavs have allowed this season. 26 was high, in opener.
Kendall Marshall and Steve Blake look like they could be related in a "mama's babies, papa's maybes" kinda way
Lakers shooting 63% from the field.
In the 4th and OT combined, Mavs were 11-of-30 (36.7 FG%) ... take out Calderon's 5-of-8, rest of Mavs were 6-of-22 (27.3 FG%)
Earlier today a reporter joked with D'Antoni about whether Xavier Henry would play 48 minutes. The answer was no, but Henry hasn't sat yet.
The Nets are 0-1 in games Tim Bontemps guarantees they will win.
Cheeks said he pulled Drummond late bc he felt Monroe would be a better defender on Big Al. He scored the next 3 possessions after that
Kaman checked out at the 10:15 mark with 2 points, 2 boards and that big block of Martin. LAL up 37-30 as Williams enters the action.
Suns might be the best story in the NBA. Amazing.
I'm calling the people booing Kevin Love shortsighted. BK
I loved Young’s patience there. Saw the double team come and read the defense. Double team left and he went to work on the smaller Barea.
The second unit was not good tonight, that was certainly a takeaway. Letting Walker/Henderson keep them in it early was a warning sign
22-8 Phoenix in the 4th quarter so far
Nick Young working from the mid-post a la Kobe. Hit the fadeaway.
After xavier Henry scored 11 in 1st, Shved now on him while JJ took Nick Young, who simply shot over him instead. Lakers 37-28
Danny on Lance’s lob: “Even Paul said, ‘I don’t think I could’ve caught that.’…If he would’ve threw it right, I would've torn the rim down."
You have to appreciate the professionalism of Ish Smith to stay ready. He hadn't played since Dec. 3. Often arrives early to stay sharp.
That loss may hurt more tomorrow, if Dallas has dead legs against the Suns ... one loss could become two very easily.
Yes, Casey have JV mins, but JV also really earned them tonight. Really tightened up his play in the 2nd half.
Who made the most plays for LAL in the absence of their top 3 PG's and Kobe Bryant? Pau Gasol, who totaled 5 assists in 10 minutes.
With Kaman back in the rotation, LAL have been "big" with both units, as Jordan Hill and Kaman are playing PF, Gasol and Sacre C.
Xavier Henry with a 11-3-1 line in the 1st quarter. Young had seven points and two assists.
Fantastic NBA action tonight..love it..expect more of the same Sat night at the UC..Bulls-Cavs! 630 pre Bulls Radio Net ESPN 1000
Lakers were down 47-23 after the 1st Q the last time these two teams met. You think getting off to a good start was a priority?
Mavs were 3-of-10 in overtime, including 0-of-5 from Dirk and Ellis.
Lakers lead Minnesota, 35-26, after the first quarter. Everything is clicking tonight.
The Lakers hit 14 of 22 FG's (63.6%) against a pretty loose Wolves' defense, while Minny shot just 10 for 26 (38.5%).
LAL leads 35-26 at the end of the 1st Q. Xavier Henry has 11 pts. Meeks and Young have 7 apiece. Pau has 5 ast, Wes has 4 ast.
Lakers 35, Wolves 26 after a quarter in LA. That's only 21 pts shy of the 47 they scored last time here
The Nets lost game 17 on January 25th last season. They were 26-17 at the time.
Great job by Eric Smith Raps sideline reporter—he actually ASKED questions instead of making statements -expecting player to respond.
The Lakers have rediscovered their all-for-one, fun-and-gun identity.
I have no idea who is playing point guard for the Lakers - though Wesley Johnson was guarding JJ Barea
Looks like Jodie Meeks may be out of his slump, backing up a good game in Memphis with a 3 for 3 1st Q. His 3 put LAL up 35-26 after 1.
DG: What Ive been going thru the last few yrs has been hard & it’s always good to have the support of Indiana. I love Indiana w all my heart
Casey coached a good game tonight. I was impressed w his in-game adjustments. Not usually his strength.
Monta Ellis had a clean look to win the game, rushed it. Raps caught a break but hey, they were due for one, right?
Young’s two FTs give the Lakers a 32-24 lead.
BIG win for the Raps, 109-108 in OT, coming back from a 19-point second quarter deficit to hand the Mavs their 3rd loss at home
There is at least a 75 percent chance that Nick Young's favorite food, spaghetti cake, contains neither spaghetti nor cake. AK
Tough loss. Mavs had so many chances to put that game away and could just never get that final basket.
Raps win..salami and cheese baby!
Would never complain if it goes to Dirk though ...
JJ Barea is no one you want to leave open in the corner, fellas.
With how tired Dirk appears, would have no problem with ball going through Ellis here.
I swear the Raps half court sets forget JV more often than not. Brutal.
Sloppy fast break there for the Lakers.
Mavs final shot. Down 1 with the ball and 10.2 to play.
And yes, he said "spaghetti cake." BK
What was that?
"Our offensive motor was as committed as I've seen it all season," Vogel said.
LMM, DC and Shved into game for Wolves with first subs. RIcky and Love stay out there
Irving said he came close to not playing, decided around 5:15 to get in the car and drive to arena. Said his goal is to play in all 82 games
Even Nick Young's "Get to know me" Jumbotron segment is drenched in swaggy. AK
Now we've got the Robert Sacre/Chris Kaman front court - MDA scrambling to find some depth
Chris Kaman, though... Nice block, running the break, heady play tapping the ball out. All in all an encouraging return.
Nick Young Jumbotron fun facts. Playing since he was 2. Fave food-- spaghetti cake. Fave app: Insta- "I like taking pictures of myself." BK
Agree with what others are saying: Dirk looks tired. Legs weren't fully there.
Mook Morris just put it on somebody head
Can't believe Dirk missed those two attempts ... or Calderon the open three.
The 12-13 Lakers have a nice 11-point lead on a 13-13 Minnesota team, and Twitter is erupting like the Giants won the pennant.
One does not simply dunk on Chris Kaman.
DeMar DeRozan matches his career high of 9 assists, set twice, most recently vs the Bucks on Mar. 2
I’m just over here laughing because I just don’t know what else to do.
Nick Young clearly kinew he shouldn't throw that lob, grimacing as he did so. It was like a bad chip shot coming rolling off the green.
Staples Center is on its feet after a large Chris Kaman swat of Martin led to a bigger transition dunk from Wesley Johnson. LAL up 30-19.
Lakers up 30-19 early on with Xavier Henry leading the way with 11 pts and Pau racking up 5 ast. Kaman making early plays too.
Amazing shot by DeRozan ... he's hit a handful of them late.
CHRIS KAMAN STOPPED A 3-ON-1 FASTBREAK BY HIMSELF.
Henry, tonight's starting PG, has 11 points and one assist. Gasol has five assists.
CGLKAHDSGSKAJFLDSFJAJDFADF WHAT IS HAPPENING????
Lakers all over Minnesota, 30-19.
That Kevin Martin/Chris Kaman poster would have been a really weird one anyway. BK
And there is Pau Gasol showing Nick Young how a lob should be thrown. Wes Johnson says thank you.
Chris Kaman just blocked Kevin Martin at the rim - nice play
Xavier Henry already has 11 points, leading LAL to a 28-19 lead. Gasol and Johnson have 4 assists apiece.
Mavs have set a new season-worst with 32 points off of turnovers by Toronto (at the end of regulation)
Nick Young checks in. D'Antoni called him "one of the best shotmakers" he's seen. Right up there with Kobe, no doubt.
I don't think he was wrong, but Pau could have closed on Love, then argued about the non-call. BK
PLAY THROUGH THE WHISTLE
GREAT pass from Pau to the diving Xavier. Home cooking for everyone.
Jack is in the house, btw
Macklemore the hip-hop artist is looking into changing his name after seeing the LeBron dunk on McLemore.
Dirk finds B-Wright, who earns a trip to the FT line. Wright misses both and the two teams remain knotted at 105-all with 2:02 in OT.
Ricky has gone first 8 mins here without too much issue, but Wolves trail 23-14 here with 4 mins left in 1st
Finger rolls: So easy a Kaman can do it.
It’s always a swaggy adventure with Nick Young on the break.
Chris Kaman's 1st off the bench tonight, and is joined by Nick Young, who scored back-to-back transition buckets to put LAL up 23-14.
FWIW I have Lakers tonight - pick made before kobe injury - and I don't flip or flop
Well this is interesting. Chris Kaman checks in at the 5:29 mark. It's been a while for Sasquatch. Big (man) news.
Lowry-to-Amir has been money all night. Backcourt (Lowry/DeRozan) accounts for 14 of the Raps 16 assists
I can guarantee there was a foul if Dirk misses that badly.
Chris Kaman has checked in.
Chris Kaman in the first quarter! Chris Kaman in the first quarter!
Kaman out of exile. BK
Chris Kaman back in rotation apparently - checks in in 1st Q
Laker fans are looking so far ahead into free agency, I half-expect the Staples crowd to chant "MVP" when Love's at the line. AK
Whoever invented the "Brook-lyn" chant didn't consider how it would sound when sarcastically repeated by employees at the Wells Fargo Center
Pierce calling out Lopez? "It’s just inexcusable right now, one of biggest teams in the league getting crushed on the glass every night."
In Granger’s first game back, the Pacers win by 33. Fitting.
Think Dalembert may have played simply to win the tip.
For the second straight game the @raptors are going to overtime tied at 101. Dirk's fall away jumper misses and the Raptors retain life.
I'm thinking the Lakers could out a #24 jersey on Meeks and half the Staples Center wouldn't know the difference.
Just what I need. An overtime game on the first leg of a back-to-back -- with the second game in Phoenix.
Vogel on Granger’s showing: "Exactly what I thought I’d see.” He liked that his first impact of the game was on the defensive end.
Wesley Johnson had a season-high 6 assists in the win at Memphis, and already has 4 in the first 5 minutes tonight. LAL up 15-10 early.
Biggest lead for Lakers at 5 over Wolves 15-10
Dirk, step-back for the win, no good. Raps go to OT (where they're 0-3 this season) for the second straight game
They went straight Dirk ... got a shot up, just barely missed. Going to OT.
Xavier Henry - 5 shots, 0 assists. Starting point guard.
Another OT game in the NBA !!!!
Wolves a little off that 47-point first quarter pace from last time here. They trail 13-10 with five minutes gone
Henry has taken 5 shots, hitting 3 of 'em (including a 3) for 7 early points. Gasol is 2 for 3 plus 2 assists as LAL lead 13-10.
I'd go two-man-game with Ellis and Dirk.
BIG shot by DeRozan, who has 3/14 prior and a good decision for the Raps, going for the quick two. Tied at 101, Mavs with the ball
Xavier Henry is 3-for-5 with a 3-pointer to start. Not bad.
Which has more stability, playing PG for the Lakers or drumming for Spinal Tap?
What a shot by Double D….tied at 101
Sorry, 16.5 seconds to play.
Tough shot by DeRozan. Nice D by Marion. Mavs ball. Game tied. 16.9 seconds to play.
Always funny to watch a game and see someone sitting on or behind the bench that you have an intense personal dislike for.
I'm proud of that one. I don't care what y'all think.
Not sure how Meeks got that open on the inbounds.
Pierce: "We’ve got to be up for everybody. It’s not like we’re walking giants. We are bottom feeders right now just like Philadelphia."
Marion puts the Mavs up by two, again. Raps will inbound with 20.9s. Quick two, or hold for the last shot (tie/win)?
Great play by Calderon ... again. He's been great in this quarter.
LeBron James' Friday night postgame apparel: black blazer over a KC Chief's jersey, No. 6. No idea, either.
The Lakers defense has two blocks and have forced a 24-second violation. WUT?
Lakers a lot better than last time vs. Wolves - by now the game was already over (in Nov.)
Xavier Henry told me he'd rather be called a "floor general" tonight than the point guard, since everybody who's played PG has gotten hurt.
Xavier Henry has attempted four shots in the first three minutes as the Lakers starting point guard.
Bad luck there ... great defense by Ellis, just couldn't save it to a teammate.
The Pacers are 10-3 when they're trailing at the half.
I actually like the Wolves’ sleeved jerseys. The only one’s I’ve liked so far.
Amir Johnson, king of the broken play
Brooklyn's Paul Pierce: "We're bottomfeeders, just like Philadelphia. We've got to be up for everybody."
LAL up 4-0 after Gasol swatted Love, Hill swatted Brewer and Henry/Gasol scored on the other end.
Getting REAL loud in here. Mavs take a one-point lead on a Marion leak out as Raps scramble for an offensive rebound, 1:06 left
Pau block leads to the Xavier layup in transition. Then Jordan hill records a block. Wow.
Wow, the Tankinistas' minds must be racing right now between the Lottery odds and the chance to be one of the East's top 4 seeds.
Raps trailing by 1 late 4th Q. Drake in attendance recruiting Tony Romo for Raps bench help
I expect good effort from Lakers tonight, pulling together in 1st game without Kobe again, but we'll see. Should be better defense tonight.
Lakers win the tip.
Great job by Calderon to come up with that rebound and quickly find Marion streaking down the court - Mavs up 1
So Minnesota is wearing sleeves tonight? More like the Tee-Wolves!
Got to question last two shots by Lowry and DD…too anxious,
I think there was a misunderstanding. Thad Young said he wanted to be "elated."
Calderon is 4-of-5 for 11 points in the fourth ... rest of the Mavs are 1-of-8 for 3 points.
Watching replays and that was a ghost foul on Wright there on the baseline
Turning into a wild finish in Big D. If only the Raps showed up on time, didn't give the Mavs a 16-minute head start
Jose Calderón scored first 11 of 4Q for Dallas, Mavs then took lead on Dirk 3 but John Salmons answers w/ 3. Raptors up 96-95 w/ 2:32 left
Yes, Ricky is starting at point guard tonight.
Timberwolves-Lakers from Staples Center. Kobe is not in the building.
Raps offence fell apart when Vasquez went out.
It's been the Calderon show in the fourth ... that 3, on assist from Calderon, from Dirk was first points from someone other than Calderon
He's still Dirk Nowitzki.
Rough shooting night for DeMar (3/13) but worth noting he has 8 ast, 1 away from matching his career-high. Finding other ways to contribute
Dirk is legion.
Didn't like the shot by Ellis ... but hard to complain when he's been special this game.
Got to question Patterson s last two shots
Pacers scored a season-high 114 points on 53% shooting, while holding the Rockets to a season-low 81.
Kyrie Irving has four games of 37+ points. Most in the league this year.
Meanwhile, Calderon is on fire.
Mavs can't follow up a great block by Wright by getting a rebound.
Ugh. Lee. FINAL: Pacers 114, Rockets 81. Dwight 19p-12r-5blk, but Harden (3-14 FG), shooters (4-22 3P) completely locked down tonight.
Pacers thrash the Rockets 114-81, ending a two-game slide. Six in double figures, led by 24 from PG. Brad Stevens and Boston in town Sun.
Don't look now, but Mahinmi has 10 points.
All 21 of the Raps bench pts have come from Vasquez and Patterson (on 9/17 shooting). Salmons and Hansbrough/Hayes (used sparingly) are 0/5
Raptors opened 4th qtr with 11-0 run. They lead Dallas 91-86 w/ 6:28 to go. Greivis Vasquez in his 4th game w/ Toronto had 8 in the run
