Bought Halloween candy for trick-or-treaters… have eaten 7-8 pieces myself while writing about the Rockets. Not great with temptation...
Beverley on tmrw: “I will have to talk to the coaches and medical staff but I feel good right now, but we will just see how the day goes."
I asked McHale about Terrence Jones’ big spurt in the Utah game. He said Jones was about to spurt over the bench before he got things going.
Dwight Howard referred to himself as a teddy bear at practice today. Then laughed about it. I think the joke was lost on a few.
Beverley answered a couple quick questions- said he felt good today but would see how he was doing tomorrow.
Beverley did not practice today but did work out- he will be evaluated tomorrow. For what it's worth, he seems to be in very good spirits.
Pat Beverley is currently running on the treadmill and is listed as day to day.
That 7-13 and better seems doable, though winning at last season's clip as soon as two key players out so long return could be tough.
If KD, Westbrook return mid-Dec. and win last season's 72 %, OKC would have to go 7-13 w/out them to reach the 50 wins probably takes in WC.
NBA-TV picks up Tuesday's Rockets game at Miami. Usual blackout rules apply.
Cavs will be fine once they get that fourth superstar.
Watching that intro just got me so hyped up...I feel like ima bout to play lol
First game swagger and a great win with my bro jharden13 you gotta be hype for this season
On Beverley, 2 individuals briefed on initial exam said did not seem serious. Still muscle injuries can go either way in the first few days.
Rockets pick up fourth year options on contracts of Terrence Jones and Donatas Motiejunas, source said. Both signed through 15-16.
Russell Westbrook is straight beasting right now. 33 points midway thru the 3rd. That's about half of his team's points.
I would say it's probably best not to read too much into Beverley's refusal to be interviewed. Really, even he will know little until tmrw.
Rockets coach Kevin McHale said he did not know how serious the injury might be.
I can't tell you how Beverley feels, when he began to feel any pain, if he thinks he can be ready for Saturday or if optimistic/pessimistic.
Beverley, however, would not answer any questions. Had a long treatment session in training room before flat out refusing to be interviewed.
As with all muscle injuries, Rockets won't know a timetable on Beverley until tmrw at soonest. Does not seem too serious at this point.
Sure, most of us were rooting for the Royals. But the Giants earned it. Bumgarner's amazeballs.
Good game- glad that went to seven. Congrats to the Giants.
This feels a little scripted.
FINAL: Rockets 104, Jazz 93. Dwight, Ariza combine for 42, Harden 18p-10a-7r. Rockets 14-27 from 3-pt range. Bev left w/ hamstring strain.
Pat Beverley out with a strained hamstring.
Patrick Beverley appeared to be limping just before that timeout. He did not come back out after the commercial break (Jason Terry in).
Pat Beverley left the court during the time out. Daryl Morey and Gersson Rosas quickly followed. Waiting on word.
20 now for Ariza, tied w/ Dwight Howard to lead all scorers tonight. Since going back to the starters, Rockets crushing Jazz, now up 93-77.
Guy next to me just complained about Gordon Hayward's 2 of 9, 6 point night. "That's a million dollars a point."
Two nights in a row of solid outside shooting from the Rockets. That bodes well for this team.
Terrence Jones, after an awful first half, has been solid since. Hit a 3, blocked a shot and then scored inside to push lead back to 10.
The Houston Rockets starting lineup is really, really good. Lead back to 86-76, 8:05 left.
Jazz score final 10 points of the third, last eight after Harden, Howard sat. Howard's fourth foul hurt badly.
With both Harden, Howard on the bench, Rockets struggle to find some kind of offense. Bench help needed. Jazz within 75-72 through 3Q.
Rockets look absolutely lost with a lineup they had not used in preseason. Canaan, Terry in backcourt with Black at center, Pap at 4.
Liking this interview with Adam Silver- so far I've been a fan of him as the commissioner.
Dwight was in for about 15 seconds before picking up his fourth foul. Back to bench, with Harden already sitting.
Trevor Ariza doing it AGAIN. He's 6-8 from the field, including 3-5 from deep, for 17 points. 75-66 Rockets, 2:32 3Q.
Trevor Ariza is making some doubtful Rockets fans from the offseason shut up.
Jazz made 60 %of shots in first half, 2 of 9 in first six minutes of second half. Harden with a couple nice stops. Jones shows up, too.
No call on Hayward drive has Jazz fans sounding like old days. Well, not really, but closer.
Blocking foul on Beverley not even close. Showed a very good replay on a very good screen here. McHale could not get official to look at it.
Rockets score the last eight points of the half, lead 58-50. Papanikolaou with a career-high 12. (Yeah, I know.)
Harden for three just before the horn! Rockets close the half on a 22-8 run, lead 58-50 in Utah.
Harden missing his shots (3 of 9), but has seven of the Rockets eight assists.
Make it 4-4 for Papanikolaou from three-point range.
Wow, there really is a new sheriff in town. Adam Silver cheered as shown on scoreboard. Don't think his predecessor was.
The other thing K-Pap's shot does is keep his man from doubling down on Dwight, who immediately spins, dunks on Kanter.
Papanikolaou now has three triples in this game, including the last two baskets for the Rockets. Tied at 44, 3:24 left in the half.
Papanikolaou has hit all three of his treys. When he gets going with his shot, creates chances to create, or something like that.
Howard asking why he is out of the game. Keith Jones said "They called that foul on you." Told he has three. Stat monitors still show two.
Dwight was called for a foul for touching Rudy Gobert. Call so weird, stats crew gave it to Beverley. Eventually was fixed to Howard. Has 2.
Terrence Jones was terrific last night. Invisible tonight. Sits with three fouls, 0 points, 1 rebounds. Papanikolaou in at four.
Rockets shoddy early D might have helped Jazz get going at 1st, but Jazz have been impressive offensively. Moving ball, getting good looks.
Tied at 27 in Utah after one. Jazz hitting 67% from the field -- not sure that continues. Dwight (6-7 FG, 12 points) carrying Rockets.
Interesting first quarter with Howard (6 of 7) dominant, Harden (1 of 5) not. Derrick Favors has been impressive. Tied at 27 after 1.
Isaiah Canaan getting first half minutes for the Rockets. Played only in fourth last night. In a backcourt with Terry.
That's no small sample size either. The Rockets have opened 11 seasons with back-to-backs on the road, not including this year, since 78-79.
After last night and 3:30 a.m. arrival, this always had letdown potential for Rockets. Last time opened with a sweep of a road b-to-b? 1978.
Jazz and Rockets both shooting 72.7 %. Jazz and Rockets playing no defense.
Will be interesting if the Jazz begin double Dwight -- or the Rockets attempt to defend at all.
"It's the Dwight Howard show!" says Bill Worrell. He's got 10 points on 5-6 shooting in the first 5 minutes of the game.
Dwight hitting his shots even more consistently (5 of 6) than when Kobe was slapping his forearms.
Good to hear Dan Roberts still Jazz PA guy. With Lawrence Tanter among NBA's most tenured. Steve Francis did a fine imitation of Roberts.
Adam Silver, in SLC, said it's just a coincidence that he's here for fellow Dookie Quin Snyder ' s debut.
Annual conversation in Jazz media room. Does NBA own a map? Can it find SLC on a map? Rockets arrived hotel at 3:30a.m. Jazz at Dallas tmrw.
