Had a tough few days recovering from surgery, but I have to admit, my spirits are lifted since college football is back in full force.
Few quick UH stats: Yards rushing -- minus 26. Turnovers-six. Players made available post-game -- 2.
Ryan Jackson will be a trivia answer -- first Cougars player to score in TDECU -- with his run with 1:04 left. Final : UTSA 27, UH 7.
Roadrunners run into the line a few times before Sean Ianno adds a 30-yard field goal. With 4:04 left, it's 27-0.
Looks like O'Korn will be through for the night. Billy Cosh is warming up.
Cougars fumble. Make it six turnovers, a UTSA record for takeaways.
Cracks me up that our press box announcer keeps calling each play, reading every announcement though the PA hasn't worked since 1st quarter.
Make it pick No. 4 for O'Korn. Had a bit of a drive going this time. At this point, even John Jenkins would run the ball for awhile.
Most of the crowd of 40,755 for the TDECU debut headed home. Can't blame them. The ribbon cutting was nice, however.
UTSA bullies its way through 36 yards, chewing up 5:05 before a 26-yard Sean Lanno field goal makes the lead, 24-0, with 1:15 left in 3rd.
Actually, the ruling on the bad snap on the punt was changed. Make it just four Houston turnovers -- for now.
O'Korn with interception No. 3. Cougars fifth turnover.
UTSA just punished UH defense to start the 2nd half. Went 60 yards in 13 plays, almost all on the ground before Jarveon Williams 11-yd run.
UTSA with a four-play drive with Glasco going in from the two. Cougars defense might have run out of gas late in half, trail 14-0.
In latest Coogs' three-and-out, two sacks and a three-yard pass. But with the fast-paced offense, you don't have to wait long between punts.
Did I mention it's a nice stadium? The game, not so much. Like parking a 72 Chevette in a mansion's garage.
The Rangers are, um, unleashing whatever angst they've pent up ALL YEAR LONG. Yeesh.
Some of the UH offensive problems have been with protecting O'Korn, but he just airmailed a pass badly for his second interception.
Most third basemen need to set & throw from the line. Beltre just gets it & flicks the wrist. Ball release speed, strength impressive.
Lots happened while we were knocked off line. Score at UH, however, has not changed. O'Korn intercepted at the 3 forcing pass to Greenberry.
Oberholtzer is done after 4.1 innings. Just never really got into a rhythm. Runs scored on him in all but the 2nd inning. 7 runs, 1 man on.
Cougars finally on the move with a pair of back-shoulder throws from John O'Korn to Deontay Greenberry, the second with a big-time catch.
When Chris Carter hits a ball that starts to soar, I expect it to keep flying into the seats, not fall short & get caught by a human being.
One play after a fumbled punt snap set up UTSA at the 3, Roadrunners run it in, lead 7-0. Cougars offense doing nothing.
Michael Choice lauched a 3-run shot that bounced off the wall above the Crawford Boxes & back on the field. No chance to throw it back!
Cougars, last season's takeaway champs, recover a muffed fumble, then give it right back when snap smacks O'Korn in face mask. Oy.
Well, the Cougars' first series in the new digs is a three-and-out. Roadrunners defense apparently dropped a safe with word "ACME" on it.
TDECU is plenty nice enough and big enough for Coogs to host big names/draws. Do that and Houston should turn out, embrace college football.
About 20 mins to kickoff at TDECU Stadium. UH prez Renu Khator, surrounded by many including Bill Yeoman, cut a 40-yard long red ribbon.
Fowler responds from getting popped in the nose, immediately gets the RBI single. Tagged out trying to make it to 2B, but still, it's tied.
And as advertised, there is an opening in one corner to check out the Houston skyline, in case anyone forgets what the H in UH stands for.
As far as first impressions of TDECU Stadium -- pretty slick. Love the end zones' downtown silhouette. Might crash the Bill Worrell suite.
Grossman wanted to play tonight, as any player would. Porter acknowledges ankle improvement, but exercising caution as soreness still exists
Zeid had right ft surgery Aug 6. After right ft recovers, surgery for left ft, then crutches, boot again. "Amazing" to be back in clubhouse.
2K be cheating so bad!!
Who knows where I can get a hair cut in Houston ?
Firm believer all relationships r mutual. U respect somebody, that respect comes right back. Disrespect someone, disrespect comes rite back.
The media r people doing their jobs. Good people r taught 2respect everyone, no mattr what. Character the real defining legacy, not rush yds
