HoopsHype Houston Rockets twitter
Rockets down 25-20 after one. Rough shooting quarter for Rockets as they shoot just 30% from the field, go 0-7 from long range.
D-Mo trying to give his team much-needed spark. Just ripped ball away from Gerald Green, prompting a shove & a T on GG.
Bizarre T on Gerald Green. Lost the ball to Motiejunas so he fouled him, then threw a forearm for no apparent reason.
Last 5 homes games, HOU shooting better than 50% from 3. But 0-6 so far tonight. PHX opponents average 4th lowest hit rate from beyond arc.
Rockets rely heavily on 3s, goes into strength of the Suns defense. Rockets 9 for 6 on 3s, shooting 29.2 %. Miss Lin, Parsons off dribble.
Tucker terrific defensively, but Harden has not been involved offensively. Has 2 shots in 9 1/2 minutes. Needs to drive on extended Suns D.
Suns are clearly focusing on taking away the three from Rockets (0-5 3P). Could be a big game for Dwight (9p, 6r). 20-17 Suns, 2:27 1Q.
D12 off to strong start w/ 9 pts, 6 rebs (4 on offensive end). Has scored 15 or fewer in last 6 games. Might top that by halftime tonight.
AB checks in. Last 3 homes games averaging more than 20 points, five assists and shooting better than 64% from the field and 72% from 3
Rockets second in NBA in FG %, making 48.8 %, but off to a 5 of 18 start.
Rockets dominating offensive glass; just 4-16 from field but have corralled 7 of those misses. 12-all midway through 2Q.
Rockets streak of not trailing at any point in the last 5 home games ends as Suns take a 4-2 lead.
Rockets trail 4-2, first time they have trailed in a home game since Nov. 11, ending run of five straight start-to-finish home wins.
With all the suits on Rockets bench -- Asik, Lin, Parsons, Smith -- it looks like a Jos. A. Bank commercial.
Even more empty seats than usual just before tip at Toyota Center. The sellout streak -- every game this season -- could be in trouble.
"Push yourself to keep improving or you'll stay as close to the bottom as you are to the top."
So Chandler Parsons, Omer Asik, Jeremy Lin and Greg Smith are all out. That's a playoff team in the East.
Rockets make it official. Parsons (back) is out. Francisco Garcia to start.
Parsons has played with the back issue for most of a month, but has been unable to loosen it since the late dunk and spasms Saturday in SA.
W Parsons, Asik, Lin, Smith out, Rockets players have missed a combined 31 gms. Missed 50 last season. Asik, Lin out another week at least.
Chandler Parsons (back) says he is out tonight. Expect Garcia to start in his place once again.
Rockets thought Parsons would be able to go, but at this point, it's anyone's guess how the back will respond.
McHale said Parsons tightened up. Way more likely not to play.
McHale says Chandler Parsons "probably" won't play tonight. Says "way more likely not than yes."
McHale says "probably" no Chandler tonight versus Suns.
Hate to waffle, but it's that kind of injury.
Parsons will go through warmups in about 10 mins. Unless has more spasms likely to try to play. Again,, with back spasms, you never know.
Rockets 109.1 points per game leads NBA and would be their most for a full season since their 1985-86 Finals team averaged 114.4.
With Lin, Asik, Smith out at least 12 more games between them, Rockets have combined to miss 27 games. Missed a combined 50 all last season.
With Rockets string of injuries, Howard is their only player to play in all 19 games. He, Brooks, Jones, DMo only players haven't been hurt.
Actually, with Asik out, might be Derrick Alston stepping in, matching up with Dwight Howard. Either way, training room could be crowded.
With Rockets injuries, D-League assignments, White House visits, could have 8 for practice tomorrow. Greg Buckner, Matt Brase come on down.
Thank you President and Mrs. Obama
If could play, Casspi said he wouldn't block Obama's shots. "We don't need Israel-United States drama. Let him score. We need that support."
Omri Casspi on meeting Obama tomorrow. "I wish we had some time to play. It could have been fun."
Greg Smith could be getting close to coming back. He did some running on Monday, on court work yesterday. Chance he practices on Saturday.
Suns in town tonight. In the last 8 games, former Rocket Goran Dragic is averaging 21.5 points & 8.5 assists, hitting 51.8% from the field.
If Parsons is out, Rockets will be down to nine players in uniform.
With Greg Smith still out, Motiejunas moves up as Rockets backup center.
Omer Asik out a week with a bruised right thigh. Will be re-evaluated then.
So with Asik and Greg Smith out tonight, could be D-Mo time again this week.
Omer Asik (right thigh contusion) will be out for a week, then re-evaluated.
Parsons says he'll be a game time decision tonight. Went through shootaround but says back still tight. Better, but not there yet
Chandler Parsons went through shoot around. No word yet about tonight.
The Eastern Conference: where 27-point third quarter leads go to die.
Well that's a freebie.
Good Win tonight Fellas!!
Appreciate the love from @memoriesonacase, they went to work on my new case! >>>> http://t.co/Jm8jDjl5lG
Lastly:Only 2 teams in Eastern Conference (Indy, MIA) sport positive point differentials; 11 of 15 WC teams comfortably in positive category
Also: after last night's games, Rockets now No. 1 in NBA in offensive efficiency, though defense has now slipped outside the top-10.
Credit Jazz-played hard&made shots. West/East getting very silly w/West 3-0 2night&13th seed in West 4 seed in East. Vipers 4-0 w/win 2night
Head up, game Wednesday.
Going home :-)
Paul George is FREAKY good right now. Feels like he'll hit EVERYTHING. 43 points.
Tough loss. Gotta bounce back!!! On way back to the H
Kevin McHale on if anything was wrong with Terrence Jones (who played just 18 minutes): "No. I thought Omri was playing better."
This Seahawks defensive coverage though. And their swagger. Impressive.
Rockets no doubt missed Parsons, esp w Lin out. And Jazz much better now that healthy. But no defensive effort early set up Rockets to fail.
109-103 Utah knocks off Houston. Jazz shoot 54% from the field, nearly 59% from 3. Burke & Hayward combine for 60.
FINAL: Jazz 109, Rockets 103. Harden scored 37 points, but Rockets a step slow without Parsons. 5-game win streak snapped by league's worst.
Jazz stretch their winning streak to two games, their longest streak of the season.
That said, can't overstate just how much different Jazz look with Trey Burke running the show. He's been terrific, as have Hayward & Burks.
That might be the dagger. Williams drains triple w/ 59.5 ticks left to put Jazz up 8. Early HOU malaise coming back to bite them hard now.
Rockets got whipped down the stretch -- down 8 with 59.5 left -- but all set up when Rockets showed up going through motions 2 hours ago.
Utah has played great, but Rockets haven't helped themselves at all tonight. Latest miscue sees Harden throw pick-2 to Williams. Jazz up 5.
Blunder by James Harden, who miscommunicated on a pass to Casspi and throws it right to Marvin Williams for a fast break slam. 103-98 Utah.
Rockets began game in a daze. Looks like ending it that way, too. Giving up 2nd, third shots, bad foul by Brooks, worse turnover by Harden.
Aaron Brooks with a three and a pair of free throws. 99-98 Utah, 2:25 left. Now if the Rockets can just get some boards...
AB & Casspi have been very good once again off HOU bench. Trying to help Rockets steal one as HOU down 3, 2:25 to go.
Rockets' defensive rebounding bugaboo biting them at worst possible time; 3 Utah offensive boards last 2 trips down floor.
Rockets have had plenty of chances here but they can't seem to get over the hump. Jazz up 93-91, 4:43 left.
That kind of night for Utah: Alec Burks, 24% 3-pt shooter, now 2-2 from deep, Jazz 9-14 from beyond the arc overall. 93-89 Jazz, mid-4Q.
Casspi has been terrific again. So what is it. "The Great Casspi?" "Rock the Casspi?" Or "Casspi the friendly ghost?" (Not that last one.)
A week ago, annual questions started about whether time had caught to Tim Duncan? Hit game-winner, had 23p, 21 r. Time wins when he retires.
